New England Premiership State Cup a Joke...Boys

The NEP stands for New England Premiership....NEW ENGLAND!!!!
Why are there individual state cup tournaments?
While I don't claim to know the numbers on the girls side, if you were to look at the brackets for the Boys NEP State Cup it is ridiculous. Only Mass consistently has at least 8 teams (Yes only 8 teams!!!) in each age group.
The other states (Me, NH, Conn, RI) have no more than 8 in any age group, with most having less than 6 and many have a total of 4 in each age group.......two brackets of two!!!

What is the meaning of state champions??

I wouldn't necessarily say that the smaller states having their own state cup with a limited amount of teams is a joke, but the fact that they all now qualify directly for the Nationals definitely is.

Agreed. So what? Two options go to "nationals" or stay home.

Isn't this the first year of it running? Let's see where it goes. I have a feeling it could build as many states aren't happy with their state organizations but would still like a chance to play for the trophy. Problem is that some of these teams are going to travel all the way to CO at decent expense and get their butts handed to them.

          OP here.....
I do think that a state cup made up of 4-6 teams is a joke....or at least fairly insignificant.
However, part of my point was that this is the New England Premiership. Given the low number of teams, at least have a playoff between the state winners to see who goes to nationals.....or make the New England Premiership have one New England Championship instead of 5 individual state cups.

The problem that I see being created with your soccer is that we broke down the one-league relegation to the multiple leagues with varying rules. Just in the NE alone, there are multiple leagues with everyone claiming to have one this or that.

The focus seems to be moving away from development and training and toward winning a state or regional cup so that the club can advertise....

            You got it bragging rights.
They could have done like last year NE champs, but why NEP saved the hassle of running it and expense.
Now can't wait to see a team goto Colorado to play another New England team loose then come home.

              Ding! Ding! Ding!
              Winner-winner-chicken dinner!
All about creating an illusion that one club is superior to the others. Marketing 101! Parents still line up to write them checks?
              What a country!

U17G had 12 teams. Round Robin to wittle it down to 4.

First, STATE cup means State Cup. Not New England Cup. State Cup.

Second, this was always a problem with the little states. Even before NEP started running its own State Cup, MA and CT were the only two states in NE with more than just a few teams in State Cup.

Its called a State Cup, so individual state champions. Maybe some day they will have a New England Cup.

They had it last year. State cup winners from New England all played each other. Largely a waste of time, as the mass teams dominated. And it was an extra unnecessary week of soccer. Far better system this year.

Except the ridiculousness of sending state cup winners directly to nationals without having them going to regionals first.

I have to agree, that is really stupid. I wonder how many will go? I also wonder how many will get out of group play?

Region 1 Championship is USYS. US Club can't play in it.

It really is ridiculous - imagine the money being spent for all those teams to travel to nationals, and many of those teams don't stand a chance. Better to lose within driving distance. Prove yourself there against more worthy opponents then move on to nationals.
