    THUSC High School Boys

    My boy is a 2003 and has been with THUSC for the last 3 years or so. He's loved the club so far but there doesn't seem to be much going on at THUSC for boys U15 and up. There doesn't seem to be many teams and the ones that exist seem to combine age groups. I've mentioned this casually a time or two and don't get a real answer. I know there are some west side of Portland based clubs, is this where the players go when they get to that age? If so which club? There seems to be many options but not sure if they are better than THUSC.

    I didn't know that THUSC even had younger boys teams. I thought they were trying to be a girls club. Boys don't usually start at THUSC. Besides, you ask the question a week too late. Teams are formed.

      Where do you live?

      The other big clubs with a presence on the west side:

      * Westside Timbers--still looking for 02 (U15) boys, though at this point it will probably be the 3rd (Mundial) team. You might give them a call.
      * FC Portland--currently at Liberty HS, though they may move training grounds in the future
      * BSC
      * Hillsboro

      Smaller classic clubs include Aloha, Southside (Tigard), FC West (Forest Grove), NSC (Aloha area).

      As other commenters note, THUSC seems to have become the go-to girls club on the west side of town, with Westside Timbers becoming the go-to club for boys. WST does have a successful HS program. (Keep in mind, that elite HS kids are generally at DA and such; but assuming you're not looking for elite competition, WST will be fine).

      If you are interested in WST, show up tonight at Meadow Park MS (just north of the Nike campus) at 7:00, there will be supplemental tryouts for the B02 mundial team. You can also email the coach: davidmilne62@yahoo.com. (All this information is available on WST's website, BTW).

        Not sure THUSC is the go to club for anything anymore.

          Hands down best girls club, state cup results at younger ages speak for themselves. Who knew they had a boys program?

            Is that why they have one 3 or 4 HS girls teams? They're getting to be more like Eastside all the time. Win with bootball thugball at Ulittle and then teams implode.

              THUSC is still around? You would have never known.
              They used to have some teams, they don't have an identity so no one knows who they are

                A year or two at most and they will be absorbed into Crossfire completely. It's just a matter of time.

                  There are quite a few club teams that could hang with DA. Just sayin'.

                      Would like to add Crossfire as well. Also FC Portland does have some stealth openings. For 2001 36 tried out, 23 accepted but not all came. So there are spots. Also kids who did not get on FCP did after all the try outs get on to crossfire.

                      Just because they say tryouts are over does not mean they will not take your son. Call them and see if your kid can go to their practices and maybe the club will be a good fit for them. BTW The FCP 2001 coach Tyler Baarts, first impressions is an excellent coach. Really hands on and works with each kid individually. I was really impressed.

                        Going from bad to worse. Crossfire is a complete mess. Total wreckage of a program. Boys you have Jim Brazzo, a snake, and girls you have Tom, a snake, and Fraser, a lazy dufus.

                          THUSC is NOT the place if you want your boy to play for a HS level team. They hardly care about their boys program from U8-U14---what makes you think that they care about U15 and higher??

                          I went to the General Meeting last year and Tom blathered on and on that the boys program is important and that they DO want to be taken seriously and that they ARE going to focus on their boys programs.....blah, blah, blah. All lip service. That's when you know Tom is lying, his lips are moving. A year later and nothing significantly or fundamentally has changed. So much so that we moved/pulled our boy over to FC PDX, just because at least it seems to be a bit more organized and a bit more professional. Who knows if we made the right choice? I just got tire of Tom peeing on my back and telling me it was raining....

                            Boys Premier Level: Westside >> THUSC

                            Girls Premier Level: THUSC > Westside-TS > Westside

                            If your child is not "premier-level" not sure it matters which club you are in, as long team is playing at the right level, you like the parents in the group, your kid is playing with kids they like, and the coach is reasonably good.

                              OP here, my kid was U13 last year U14 this year. They had 4 teams at U13 and 3 at U14, which seemed pretty robust to me. U15 and up not much..looks like the kids crossover to WST and FCPDX. Kid loves soccer and wants to continue with club and play in high school the year after next.
