What is the true experience/recruiting process for D2/D3?

Daughter is a sophomore. Interested in actual stories for people who have been through it. Not talking early D1 commits...more interested in the process for the remaining players.

My daughter didn't even think about playing after HS until the end of her sophomore year. We spent the summer and fall of Junior year thinking about all the non-soccer decisions: what she wanted to study, how far from home she was willing to go and what we could afford. Late fall we started sending letters of interest to the coaches at schools that she was interested in (D-2 & D-3). She ruled out D-1 on her own before we even knew that we were too late anyway because she didn't want to be "owned" by the team.

We started going to see schools and scheduled on-campus meetings with coaches during the late winter, early spring of her junior year and started signing up for the school's camps and clinics for the summer after her junior season. By mid-summer she was focussed on one D-2 school and the coach invited her for an overnight visit that fall (October). After the overnight she was offered a spot on the team and she gave a verbal commitment, applied early admission and was accepted in January.

And now she is dating the coach. Happy endings all the way around

Very similar to my kid's experience. I would emphasize the importance of the player reaching out, inviting the coaches to see her play at tournaments, etc. starting ASAP. Also, have her make her own Youtube video with both skills and game footage. (NO need to hire a pro for this. Coaches appreciate the kids who are serious and committed enough to take the initiative themselves.) As she updates the video each season, have her send a link to all of the schools she's interested in. Also, don't underestimate the ID camps. They are expensive, but important. Find the ones that have the highest number of coaches she's talking to, and book those. Good luck, and make sure she ENJOYS the process. This process should be more FUN than stressful.

every one of the programs that recruited my daughter did some type of off season activity that started before classes in the morning (either lift sessions or training). Some started earlier than others. Few were every day, though.

When I was in school, we used to have baseball practice at Midnight during the off-season. Not fun.

Midnight makes more sense for college kids than 6am! 6AM Ouch!!!!!! 5 days a week?

6am is pretty common for D1 programs. Later than that start running afoul of classes.

There is no way it's 6am every day. Maybe 1-2 times per week during the winter/off-season.

How do you know and more importantly why do you care? Are you planning on playing D1 soccer. Christ, let it go.
