    Club Tryouts

I noticed that several CT clubs (FSA & Oakwood) have already posted their tryouts for next year, and I know these things seem to be getting earlier and earlier every year (which I find crazy btw). But was wondering if any of the clubs in MA have posted their tryouts yet, and who will be the first to hold them in May?

I know that FC Stars and NEFC are already holding their "birth year ID clinics" which as we know are just fancy words for pre-tryouts, but I figured we should be hearing about the real thing soon, no?

According to the NEP website tryouts for U12 - U18 cannot take place before June 20th, which seems much later than last year, which was early June. But regardless, I believe the regular season needs to complete before tryouts can take place.

Do ECNL and NPL teams have to follow those restrictions? I realize most of those teams have been decided on behind the scenes earlier anyway, but it seems that would be super late for the big clubs who have teams in all 3 leagues to hold their very first tryout.

Doesn't mean they aren't already inviting players to practices. By tryout time it's mostly a done deal but they'll hold tryouts to make everyone feel like they had a fair shot.

As long as a league has no restrictions on dates, clubs are free to do what they want. Most end up having players come to practices anyway. Tryouts are for show.

From what I have seen/heard/know in past ... The top 2 teams in a club are filled to about 50-90% with offers already out to top of roster before tryouts, but they leave at least 10% of the roster in flux until tryouts to finalize after they see everyone who shows up and playing against each other. These numbers are a little different when teams move into Elite/ECNL years of U13 when they are building a team for first time. This year will also be a bit different with the new birth year teams, hence all of these birth year ID clinics. My guess is that rosters will not be finalized as early this year like they have in the past.

If your planning a move you need to get on the radar asap. Tryouts for the most part are a dog and pony show. There are some exceptions. FC Boston will definitely wait to see what low hanging fruit fall in their laps.

Or perhaps fc Boston is ahead of the curve!

They already held their ID clinics and early offers going out this week. Some spots are staying open for bubble players and tryouts.

FC already made offers to some of its players for next year, teams will be filled before tryout dates even occur.

What's FCB's stance on players not wanting to commit? Also, do you think it's a bad thing that Stars sent contracts out last week? Are they in panic mode or is it usual to have players sign contracts in April?

who wouldn't want to play for a winning organization like FC? Stable coaching and a well defined philosophy of player development.

This def did not occur. My star player would have got an offer for sure.

Need to lock in as many quality players as possible before they all defect to NEFC. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Birth year changes may really shake up club affiliation for the good younger players at FCB. For the older kids it's just too late to make a change.
