U.S. soccer dev program adding clubs in oregon

So I ran across an article for U.S. soccer development program, and starting in 2016-17 they will be going as low as U12, and also adding 56 clubs. Among those are a list of oregon clubs: BSC, Capital timbers, Crossfire oregon, Eastside Timbers, FC Portland, Washington Timbers, Westside Timbers.

It sounds like for the age groups they have (I believe u12, u14, u16, u18) they will play in more regional leagues probably with Washington teams as well. I dont know much about it, thus the reason I'm posting this on here and asking about this. Is this a big deal on the boys side? How will this affect boys soccer in the area. Will those clubs become the only ones to go to for the boys side if your a top player?

Here is the link to it: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2016...2016-17-season

You're about 2 months behind the times. Those clubs you mention are adding U12 teams only - 2004's for next fall even though the rest of the 2004's will play U13 in OYSA. Only the Portland Timbers have U14/16/18.

It is a big deal in terms of broadening the player pool, identify talent at younger ages and develop them earlier. That's why they added so many new clubs for U12 - bigger pool and less travel for younger kids. But where the real action is - U14 up - will remain with the existing clubs. The younger kids will get funneled into the pyramid and of course many will drop out/be pushed out along the way. Yes it will be a marketing tool for the clubs that were added. But the current full DA clubs will have the upper hand because they can offer a player development all the way until 18. Around here it's different because we basically have no DA teams. But in areas with more options the better players will still go for the better clubs.

I think another bonus is the amount of scholarships the clubs have promised, that could be a good tool to get more kids quality training.

I thought so too until it dawned on me it just gives a total with no time frame. Committing $1M each and every year would be awesome. It would be a game changer for many families. Committing $1M over ten years, not so much. Even if it's 5 years = $200,000 per year. Divide that by 56 clubs and it's $3,570 per club. A pittance and an amount clubs would probably do anyway based on family need. But it makes a nice PR bullet point though right?

I'd love to know where this quality coaching is coming from?
            Ridiculous!!!!

So, if BSC's U11 (soon to be U12) cannot even win the first division, how is it that they can compete with the DA teams from Southern Cal? Oregon teams are not good enough to compete with California and even Washington teams for that matter. When you hand this DA to a bunch of clubs then the talent gets diluted even more. It's another selling tool to the oblivious parent. When will we ever learn?

Keep in mind, half of everyone's U11 will be in U11 again next year, assuming clubs don't play lots of kids up to keep teams more or less intact.

But the best U11 team last fall in these parts was La Amistad. Given their traditional focus on the Latino community, I suspect they have no interest in being part of the DA....

And it's a "promise" not a commitment. Most won't offer anything. Not to mention that any of these "scholarships" still have to paid for by someone...

Really? Half of the U11's will be U12 next fall. The other half will be U13. Nobody repeats U11 unless they were already playing up a year.

                    1) They won't even play teams from outside Oregon. This is a "no travel" league. They will play only the other 6 Oregon/SWWA teams. They will not even play the Seattle area teams. They will not play state cup. They will not play in any tournaments in the summer. They will not play in OYSA.

                    2) They will improve simply because there are only 7 of them. If you want your boy to have any shot at all at the PTFC U14 Academy he'll need to be at one of these 7 clubs. Period.

They(LASC) had interest in the DA of course, but without any qualified coaching staff or infrastructure they were not a candidate for the USSDA regional u12 league in Oregon.

It all boils down to having licensed coaches in your stable. They had none.

Even after all the effort of recruiting thoroughbreds on the field.

lol yes DA has standards. That's kind of the point.

Isn't LASC a one-man operation? As noted above, they cleaned up fall league, but there is so little public info about them. Their FB page hasn't been updated in a year, their website has a training video but is otherwise "under construction". Their business model seems to be producing results on the field, however.... If there are kids at LASC and other Latino clubs who deserve a shot, I hope that $$$ doesn't keep them out of the US soccer pipeline. (After all, the Mexican pipeline seems far less pay-to-play...)

Admitted clubs will have to meet DA standards in a short period of time. Don't meet them and you're out. Very tough to find that many more clubs that have high level coaching as most are already in DA. It will get there.
