    Are you a points guy?

I'm having a converstaion with this guy I met at the pitch yesterday and suddenly he starts complaining about the laegue he is playing in because it doesn't accumalate points for the team rankings.
Is this for real? Are there people out there that actually care about their Got Soccer points?

He was probably learning that the league his kid plays in is recreational. In your early years, unless you have multiple kids spread out, it can be difficult to learn all aspects of soccer. There are reasons for the points and they can factor into team placement at tournaments, etc., and can be a barometer of sorts. You can't get too hung up on it.

Points are important for many reasons but mainly its a sense of accomplishment. As the team manager it is my responsibility to make sure I am placing the team in a position where they have the greater chance of winning to gain points. We did it all last season and now we are ranked number 4 in the state in the Girls U12 division. If I would have played against better competition we would be ranked in the 30's. The fact that we are number 4 will help us attract better girls to our team.

So basically your team is a paper tiger. It looks more ferocious in the rankings than it does on the field.

Our 13 girls played in a league last year that doesn't give got soccer points. As a result they are ranked substantially lower than our other girls teams. They did not get into Disney, although all of all others did.

Well no I would not say that. We are not doing anything different from anyone else. We are maximizing our chances of being accepted into the major tournaments and showcases. You can call it what you want, I call that smart managing. Plus its a physiological advantage as well since most teams will be scared to play us because of our high ranking. So what ends up happening we usually have won the match even before we get out of our cars.

Just make sure you enter them into tournaments like the Super Cup, Mega Cup, United Cup, The Athletic Cup. Enter your team in a lower division and then later in the year you can start playing division one or higher tournaments. I would suggest if you have access to guest players that you use them in the higher tournaments.
Its all about gaining as much exposure for your team as possible.

No, didn't you read what the poster said? Their higher ranking, for better or worse, attracts other players to their team to make them even better. At the end of the year, kids whose teams have not progressed or have fallen apart, only have so much time to go find the right team and club before that window closes. So those better players and families are looking around, especially when they hit u14 and above, at the higher ranked teams first in their tolerable driving radius, so that they can get into showcases to be seen by college coaches and win. Going after got soccer points in the most efficient manner, does not mean that they can't beat top teams, it just means that they are also trying to build up their street cred. It kind of, to me, goes hand in hand. The teams that tend to play more competitions, tend to move up and become better teams, due to how much they are playing. Some teams and clubs just flat out play more than other teams and clubs. Who cares how they do it, as long as the parents buy into it.

That's the beauty of this system, you never actually can be ranked number 1. But you can get pretty close. Like I said we are currently ranked number 4. We avoid playing the top teams so it limits our chances to grab the top spot. Since we are a smaller club we really cannot compete with the big clubs so this is the strategy we use and it has really worked for us.

You are talking about kids and sports, that which anything can happen on any particular day. Did you ever hear of Miracle on Ice? That is why a ranking is built over a 1 year time period on got soccer and not in one day. That 30th ranked team will surely move up the ranking if they beat the #1 team, but do think they should jump to number 1 after that single win, no, I think not. If you are basing a teams entire ranking over only 1 game, then you are the dumbfu c k!!! Also, why must you attack someone with vulgarity if they go about things in a different way? If you want to be ranked higher go to a team that has shown over a longer period of time that deserve to be.

Nobody deserves to be #1 with the antics of the paper tiger. Signing up to weaker tournaments like the Mega man and Super man would be lying to yourself.

I say the more touches on the the soccer ball the better. More tournaments, more practices, more pick up soccer, more indoor soccer, more futsal, more beach soccer. Kids should be playing soccer every chance they can get. If you are worried about playing too many competitions, well that sucks for you and your kids chances. #1 is #1 and that is that.

Why is that in the US, there seems to be a rush to screw around with a sport that doesn't need meddling with?

I wonder how many points Mia Hamm's club team got? Oh wait, she played before the GOT Soccer BS....

Come on people!!! I know the “team manager” is being sarcastic. There’s no way a team playing lower teams will accumulate enough points to be even top 15. At 30 pts/win and 10pts/tie, the team will have to win at least 50 games to get 1500 pts. You have to beat teams that are ranked (at least 300+ higher than your team to get the bonus (up to 300) points. You also have to win tournaments where the 5 top teams are ranked much higher than your team to get significant points. I see a lot of ignorance regarding how gotsoccer points are awarded - here is a link to the GotSoccer Support Center for Rankings.
