Age group changes and the ECNL

What are the plans for the upcoming age group changes and the ECNL, specifically the U17 teams? I counted over 10 players on the Stars ECNL U17 who are 2017 grads born in 1998. And that is only one team! Where do these girls play next Fall? Based on the age group changes going into affect, they can't play on the U18 team, so they are basically out of ECNL league play after this Spring. So, they are seniors without a team, as most of the 1998's will be in college already. Please tell me this is being addressed by the league, seems crazy to lose all this talent because no one thought this through...

Oh yeah you are smarter than everyone else and are the first to have "thought this through"...

Sounds like stars don't even have a problem if most of the 98 team is 98. At worst the team might, shudder the thought, have to bring up some NPL players. But more than likely there might be some combination will 99 seniors who are looking for the shortened season that u18 has. More and more of the studs are graduating early in December to start school with the college spring season. Might I suggest summer school?

The ECNL already has shown enough insight to accommodate summer birthday older 8th graders and seniors. They have a plan. Your child will play. Take a pill.

So, 10 players on a national championship finalist team are aged out of ECNL league play after this Spring. They can't play U18 in the ECNL. How many will actually graduate early? Please, that's ridiculous. How about those looking to play D3? Where will they be seen? I bet if you look at some of the rosters on the ECNL website, there are a lot of players that will be affected.

Yes most current u17 teams have at least half 98s. However, if I understand it correctly, 98s will be U18s next season and 99s effectively u17s again. That said, I would suspect that most 99s will stay with their current teams and theorectically "play up." Going forward however, all Aug-Dec birthday seniors are going to be in the same boat

The age groups based on birth year for next year are as follows:

          18s - 1998
          17s - 1999
          16s - 2000
          15s - 2001
          14s - 2002
          13s - 2003
          12s - 2004
          11s - 2005
          10s - 2006
          9s -2007

No, most states are mandating the change with the start of the 2016-2017 season.

This in a nutshell underscores why the age change needs to be made. Clubs pushing kids downwards instead of upwards for the sake of winning something is not what is best for their development it only benefits the club.

Your kid can play in the NPL or even NEP and still be seen by all of the top D3 programs in the region. Coaches recruit specific players regardless of the team they play on or the league that team plays in. If they are interested in a player they will go see them play and since most D3 coaches can only do local recruiting because of budget concerns, being on a team that primarily competes locally can actually be a benefit.

Um, how's that? All of these 98s are in the same grade, which is how the Clubs have always made their teams. Playing with your grade is hardly stunting development you weirdo.

If there's a way to make a buck with players stuck in the donut hole clubs will find a way. With more kids dealing with the issue someone will cobble some teams together.

However, for most ECNL seniors they should be finished recruiting right? You all keep claiming everyone is done by sophomore year.

All of the 1998's are not in the same grade.
Jan to July 31 are seniors this year.
                            Aug to Dec are Juniors.

There may be some variation for the month of Aug(some started school on time and some waited a year).

You are correct, however, the 1998's that ar juniors will be 18s again next year. 18s will now be comprised of high school seniors and college freshman.
