    10 kids on the roster?

What do you think of only having 10 U11/U12 girls on a roster? Is this too little at this age? Could use some input, I was surprised to see so few girls.

    One of three theories here:

    1. Its a small club that struggles to field a proper roster size but don't want to lose the biz, so they'll field a 9 v 9 team with only 10 players and hope they can recruit another few players once season starts.

    2. Large club's bottom team and same explanation as above.

    3. Large club's top regional team and they are keeping the roster low so they can pick up better players than are currently on their B teams. They will pull up B players to give themselves subs until they can fill those rosters spots, but they definitely will be looking outside of club to fill those spots.

What numbers are playing on the field?

The smaller the better as long as families are committed to showing up. No complaints about playing time. And, typically, you can draw kids from lower levels or younger age groups to fill any gaps due to injury, illness or vacations. I think it's great.

        Thank You.
This is a small club and fairly new so my guess is that this is it, they are just starting up. There is no other team in this age bracket. So yes, as long as people commit to showing up thats fine. When we played town soccer (tiny town) we had this problem, and sometimes needed to play a reduced roster with agreement from the other team. I'm not sure club soccer will allow this though. Thats why I am a bit concerned. But I agree great playing time!

And I'm not sure if this will be 8x8 or 9x9, it is Maple if that matters. Sorry, we are new to this.

No need to apologise, everyone was new to this at some time, even if they've forgotten it! Good luck, and enjoy the season! That age was great and first year playing club was exciting !

Just my opinion, but probably not the worst situation. As long as you get them all to come out for each game, it will give your kid a lot of playing time. Especially at that age, the more time on the field the better.

If it's 8v8 then 10 isn't bad. 9v9 could get dicey. You'd like to have at least two subs. But they easily could add a player or two and all will be well. The more playing time the better, as long as it isn't to the point of exhaustion with no subs.

Speaking from experience, it could be rough.

Fall might he ok. But Spring often brings competing sports.

My son had 10 for 8v8 last Fall. No problem.

2 quit and 1 joined, leaving us at 9 for Spring. It was a disaster. We played 8 or sometimes 7 when we couldn't get guest players.

As others said, if the kids/parents are dedicated you'll be ok.

Also, it rarely bothered my son. It bothered me because I felt that the club wasn't following through on their responsibility for the $$ we were paying.

15 for 8v8? No way. Twelve should be the maximum. Unless they just expect five won't show up on any given day, which is pretty pathetic even for town.

My daughter is used to playing most of the game since in town soccer we had this problem too, some games with no sub. It was a bit rough at times though in the heat. I would like there to be at least 2 subs. I was told before I signed her up that they had 11 kids, perfect. But the roster is actually only 9 after I checked. I hope we get another kid or 2, especially since people get sick, conflicts, etc.....
But great playing time and coaching.

Two subs is ideal (even 3 is fine) for reasons like you said. Stuff comes up. Plus when they're young some kids arbitrarily decide they don't want to play any longer. Flip that and kids will suddenly decide they want to play also which can benefit your roster.

Clubs can also bring kids up from a younger team if necessary, but playing all game is good.

As an aside: It is one of the big knocks against American soccer that we allow too many subs (at older ages) so kids do not learn how to play the game the way it is supposed to be played. It does change the game when everyone can run around until they get tired -- sub off and rest, and then come back in.

At a youth level you will be playing 25 or 30 minute halves. No problem. It will be fun as long as you can field a full team. Communication among coach and parents is key so someone can help out with a ride, or if absences are going to mean a player is needed from another team to fill in, the coach needs to know as soon as possible.

                              Have fun.
