Why is OYSA more expensive than the OPL?

There are complaints on Talking Soccer about how much the ECNL makes and how much money the OPL made. Now that all clubs seem to be going back to OYSA our fees will be increasing over $2,000. Why is OYSA so much more expensive than the OPL?

Who's pocket is this money going into?

All the costs of running the league are the same. The extra goes to the Timbers to fund USSDA Academy teams, Thorns Academy, ODP. Someone's got to pay for those "Timbers" branded programs, and it sure isn't going to be the Timbers.

So our non profit fees are now going to the for profit Timbers. That makes perfect sense! Someone call the IRS.

Sounds like your club is taking advantage of you. Our club is part of OYSA and total fees are much, much lower than $2000 total. Switch clubs.

The $2,000 you are talking about must be what your club is charging you. Maybe now they believe they will be providing a better product so they are upping the price. It is a buyers market as far as soccer clubs, so if you don't want to pay, shop around...

or maybe they mean team costs, but that is kind of splitting hairs…by OPL's own math the cost per team may go (depending on what seasons are played) from $1500 to $2150. To put that in perspective that is a $36 per player increase assuming a team of 18. Pennies in the bucket when you are looking at some of these clubs in Portland charging $2,000 plus PER PLAYER.

But then the OPL acolytes have to find some angle to complain about soccer finally coming back together. First they lose THUSC high school to CO, now they are losing OPL. We may just see them wandering around downtown looking like zombies with nothing to get enraged about...

For the same reason why a 7 series BMW is more than a Toyota Camry

Why are team fees $2,000 more in OYSA? Someone needs to answer this. How many teams are in OYSA? 500? More? Less? Do the math. That's a lot of money if the Timbers profit $2,000 per team. No wonder the Timbers pulled a fast one on everyone.

I haven't a clue what you people are talking about. The is no fee difference, this thread is completely false. If I'm wrong show me these few differences.

I'm sure I will hear crickets

I'm not sure where this 2000 number came from. Last year it was around 50-100 more for the oysa leagues depending on what level you were in. so if you played 2 seasons fall and spring, then it was around 100-200 dollars more. So roughly 10 dollars more per child.

However, when we moved from OPL to Oysa (yes I'm part of a TA club) our team fee's never changed, and it was included in our team fees. If your club is all of a sudden moved their fees up a ton, maybe you should talk to your club, and not blame oysa for that.

All youth soccer clubs should expect to incur an increase of approximately 25% in league and tournament fees. One of the OPL’s missions was to drive the cost of youth soccer as low as possible. This year a U10-U14 team that would have paid $600 for the OPL fall 2015 league, $500 for the OPL spring 2016 league, and $400 for the OPL state cup tournament, will now pay $800 for the OYSA fall 2015 league, $750 for the OYSA spring league, and $600 for the Timbers & Thorns state cup tournament. This represents an increase from $1500 per team to about $2150 per team.
I would like to know why league fees and the Oregon state cup are so much more expensive. Why does OYSA need so much to run the leagues? Or are the Timbers profiting from youth soccer. This looks like a scam to me.

Uhhhh... I'm not sure about that math. The increase is a lot more than 25%. It's 30%-50% more across the board. Why are the Timbers charging so much? Why is OYSA so expensive?

Timbers fleecing youth soccer in Oregon.

I think your numbers are way off but let's just assume for moment that you are right. It's probably because OPL sucked.

Simple answer: OPL folded and has nothing to sell at any price, no shoppers no buyers anyone still selling league play is more expensive than the OPL by default.

                              Next :)
