Heart Break for Family of Penn Runner

This has been a pretty widely reported story of the high-achieving, lovely Penn runner who committed suicide . . . heartbreaking story.

One thing to note buried in the article - suicide rates among athletes are lower than among the general population. I'm not sure what conclusions were are suppose to draw from the story - the family was trying to find her counseling and she appeared to be well-loved and well-supported - other than to hug your kids (including your soccer players), often.

Very sad and it sort of lends perspective.

This article concerns me a great deal. I have a 13 year old daughter. I'm deeply concerned about the direction of youth sports. I feel that we are forcing them to grow up too fast. Too much pressure at such young ages. I wonder if more girls will consider the path of this young lady.
