Looking for a club in Central Pinellas

We recently moved here from Texas in Feb 2015, we have three kids that had played competitive soccer in Dallas for many years. We our looking to place our kids all at one club, we have kids that will fall into the following age groups next year: U17 girls, U14 girls and U12 boys. The club we played for in Dallas was one of the best clubs in the state, we are looking for a club here that has a excellent training regimen that stresses handling the ball and movement. Any suggestion on which two clubs we should attend tryouts at?

From the sounds of it, your kids might too advanced for a large number of clubs in your area. I wouldn't waste your time at the following: Seminole, Celtic, PCU, St. Pete Raiders and Oldsmar, these clubs have a poor track record for training and they all have weak Directors of Coaching. TBU West, not sure about them, have heard they made some positive strides this year, but the club has been bad like the clubs listed above for many years. I would suggest, WFF, Clearwarter Chargers of Strictly if you want to stay in Pinellas, they are the three top clubs in the county. Make sure to ask whatever club that you tryout at, what league will my kids play in, if they tell you the USA League, then your kids will be playing in a league that is one step above rec, and it sounds like your kids are too advanced. Also, ask the club will my childs coach be licensed, what scheme will we play and will my childs coach not be a parent coach.

      Let the comments begin.

Clearwater is the best boys club and has Academy.

      Girls

TBU has a strong girls side and Rising U17G.

WFF has strong girls ECNL that practices in Brandon.

      Any two could merge someday.

Smaller clubs would be a waste of time.

I tend to agree with most of this, if your kids are advanced and looking at possibly getting a ride to college then don't go to clubs like Seminole and Celtic, they have never produced a college player, mainly because both of these clubs have a bad reputation for coaching. Another strong girls program in the area is the Tampa Rangers, which is in Lutz, if ur in northern pinellas then its not too far. I agree stay away from Seminole, Celtic, Liverpool, Tarpon, Oldsmar, PCU and any other small clubs that are USA League types.

I am starting to think this is the troll who is constantly bashing smaller clubs in the Tampa Bay area. Just seems like he is having one of his conversations with himself again.

Best boys club? No Presidents cup winners or teams in the round of 16 for State Cup. DA is way overrated and way overpriced.

              State Cup is obsolete.

ENCL/Academy do not play the lower level tournaments.

Not true.... a bunch are still in it (unless they got eliminated!).

If you really are looking for teams and a club to land at, and not just a troll that posted this thread as another opportunity to bash local clubs, then the best thing you can do is to reach out to several clubs and talk to the DOC's and perspective team coaches. any advice you get on this website will be completely biased, and usually just negative. welcome to FL soccer.

Any of the final 8 in State Cup could beat a DA team, at Clearwater, 70% of the time. As I said, DA, is overrated and overpriced at Clearwater. They brainwash the parents into thinking it is the best, so they shell out the big bucks.

Yes, you need to go watch or participate in training with your perspective teams at that club. Also, some clubs change coaches of teams at the end of the year, so you will want to observe a training of the coach in waiting.

TBU North/ South, Clearwater/ Tampa Chargers and WFF are probably your best bet. You will hear crap about all of them from somebody somewhere. The training will differ as some of these teams will have new coaches and philosophies will change. We have been at two of the three clubs listed with good & bad take aways from both.

The other local clubs just don't seem to measure up to the three I listed. They lack in coaching and college placements. TBU does a good job with college placements and Clearwater has been working hard to get kids in front of recruiters as well. I am not knowledgeable on WFF's efforts.

                          Good luck and welcome!

I would add Strictly to your list, I agree the rest of the clubs in the area are not good options unless your looking for limited training

and the Strictly lover reared his ugly head. The girls program is in shambles. May be a fit for the boys side.
