And lest you think it's that crazy for the Thorns team to lose, the team they lost to will have 9-12 players playing college in the next couple years. No, they are not a great team, but they have some high quality players. Unfortunately, it's rather impractical for the players from outside the PDX area to play on the Thorns Academy team. It was a brilliant bait and switch. The Timbers create the Thorns academy. Charge kids 200% more than normal club fees. Promise them they will play in Surf Cup and a special league that doesn't exist. Neither happened of course. They stick them into FRWL and local leagues that many clubs already do.
