    Not For Profit Club

If a club is 501c3 are they not required to file form 990 tax returns and report income to their coaches and employees via W2s and 1099s? The club my son plays for has not filed a 990 ever and none of the coaches and employees get any income reported for tax purposes...any guidance would be appreciated....we have coaches making in excess of $6,000

Leave the coaches alone....$6,000 are you kidding me. The majority of these coaches do it for the love of the sport.

Let me guess you also send your coach with the team manager on trips in order to save on giving him gas money.....P R I C K!

All 501c3 organizations have to file a 990. Only those that make more than $50,000 in a year must file the 990 version that is a public doc. The 990-N form for under $50,000 does not require all of the information.

Is the organization a 501c3? If they are not filing they may just be a non-profit registered with state of FL and not a 501 with IRS.

I suspect very few clubs register as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. They can still be non-profit.

Seriously if you want to fret about non-profit organizations your local soccer club ought to be pretty far down the list. How about the NFL, NCAA, every college football bowl, PGA etc, etc . . . Goodall's salary alone would probably cover the pay of every club coach in Florida.

Wow. Some of those coaches might be pulling in $4 an hour. Burn those greedy witches.

It's not the coaches you have to worry about. it's the organization. if they're a 501 (c)(3), they should file taxes, otherwise, they are hiding something. Or, they're lazy, and they'll eventually be forced to pay hefty penalties. The clubs you have to worry about are the ones you can't find records on. they talk big, but for all you know, the money goes into the owners pocket. even the coaches might not know the reality.

If you suspect your club contact the IRS. You can file a report annonimously and they will look into it. Other posts here are focusing on the $6000 for coaches without understanding what you were trying to ask. It has to do with IRS guidelines as to who needs to file or not. Your club meets those guidelines. Contact the IRS.

It is the same story in most if not all youth sports clubs in the U.S. Too much easy money and no independent oversight. One of the most lucrative positions in the United States has to be that of a youth soccer club Treasurer.

You also need to differentiate between a coach being paid directly by the TEAM vs being paid by the club and there is a difference. Some clubs use the model that you pay one fee to the club and then based on level of the team a coach is assigned and the team is responsible to pay the coach directly. Club is not involved in paying teh coach so won't be reflected in clubs filings.

Correct. However, most clubs in SF rather they receive all of the money directly. They will report a couple of employees and the rest of the coaches are 1099s or under the table. Paying the coach directly makes better sense for the consumer but even then, the club's fees still amount to a lot of money that goes unreported.

I just hope we can get these coaches at this club paying their taxes so that we can reduce the national debt to a reasonable level.

The coaches get paid nothing. It is the clubs.
