Does Anyone On This Forum Actually Watch Soccer?

Does anyone on this forum actually watch English and European soccer? Or even MLS for that matter?

I can't seem to have an intelligent conversation about soccer on this forum. It's all about which of the two already bad clubs are worse.

I don't think anyone on this forum actually knows anything about soccer.

Legit questions and I'm sure few do. I watch when I can but I have little free time to watch much of anything. But I'm no expert - I just love the sport.

Face it, most parents didn't grow up playing the sport let alone watching it all weekend long like they do in Europe. It just isn't part of the culture for most Americans, even those who have kids playing now. Between that and the other professional sports grabbing all the attention you're going to have to search for compadres to chat with. This board is filled with suburban dads dreaming of college scholarships for their kids.

Problem is just the opposite. Too many dads watch soccer and think they really know the game but are actually novices and never played at a high level. The only thing worse than a cluseless dad is pompous clueless dad who thinks he knows the game and says things like "am I the only one here who actually watches the game??? My son knows a lot more than me at a young age and plays at a very high level. We are a generation away. Need to know what you don't know.

yes, lots of them watch soccer...their kids....which is why they are incapable of having an intelligent discussion about soccer and decide to rant instead about their child's club, your club, and the people that run them and how stupid they are. I watch both my sons games and pro level when I can, and still don't think I am an expert by a long stretch. We haven't played the game well long enough in the US to have the proper perspective on a wide and deep scale. But people on forums like this one like to hear themselves talk as if they are experts. Once and a while an intelligent post crops up, and even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally...but then someone quickly sees it and they drag into the mire of negativity.

Dont confuse knowledge of the game of soccer with knowledge of the soccer system in the US. I agree that many of the folks that are presently navigating the soccer system in the US have little real understanding of the game itself, for many of the reasons stated above. However, there is quite a bit of knowledge about US soccer as a system - the clubs, the leagues, the local issues that affect our kids, the process for getting ID'd, for how to work the way up from travel to club to HS to college. If you read through the BS, personal vendettas and obvious trolling on this site, there's lots of decent information about many of these topics. Just don't expect much about the playing of the sport itself.

Of course we do! Where do you think we learned "BOOT IT!", "Handball!", "All Ball, Ref!", "Get it Out!", "Unlucky!!!"?

They don't teach you this stuff in american schools, sir! : -)

I try to watch a couple games every week - sometimes more. Usually on NESN. Watch MLS here and there but it can be hard on the eyes. - Cujo

I watch BPL weekly and MLS when im season. I also watch CL and EL when possible. Have my favorite teams that I've followed for years. I played soccer and watch soccer a lot as I love the sport. As a mom to two young girls who play, I am always encouraging them to watch with me, which they do much of the time. Watching has definitely helped their games quite a bit, as they learn things that is much harder to learn while on the field. And I steer clear of all the TS idiocy as much as possible and the Perspective v BTDT crap that sadly takes over most threads.

I usually watch the English Premier League but I recently tried watching the MLS this past summer and I couldn't watch it. The quality of play is so low and it's annoying to watch to be completely frank.

I wish some EPL games were at better times and not so early because Europe soccer is the best soccer to watch

Told a parent this before and they politely said we will have to agree to disagree.... some kids just have it and don't need to watch to become better. while it maybe true, i can't see how it would hurt to make them better.... smh
