    What is Elite?


    I see this "title" all over the place in youth soccer over here in the US. For some reason I have been thinking about this, what gives you the right? or the Honor? is there a measuring block for this? Or is this the old let me give my team that title so that I can charge insane amounts of money to pay for my vacation in Atlantis.

    Another thing that’s ridiculous is the Youth Academy thing going on here. Every club is offering a Youth Academy, and most suck. It's really just a way to form U9 teams by offering Academy “training". Parents think it's something special because the name Academy.

    For me, it’s just another form of grade inflation. Gotta beef up the self-esteem, you know.

    I think it means better than select but not premier.

    By the way "elite" has it's origins in Middle English/Norman French, so you guys were probably the first to be elite.

      Our club has academy and most parents don't even equate it with the Developmental Academy. It's a program where kids play other clubs with academy teams. The emphasis is on finding competitive games. Winning isn't important. What is important is the development of the players. So, get over it.

      As far as elite goes, each club finds a way to identify its teams. I prefer premier or elite to some color only the club understands. At least then, when you play in a tournament, you have a clue which level team you are playing. The color thing is like unlocking a code only understood by the club.

        A lot like calling a top division 'premier' and the 2nd division called 'the championship'? Championship of what...mediocrity? Instead of complaining of what words we use, how about all you wanna-be English trainers actually teach the kids something or just go home!

          English are not elite soccer players, so how can they teach our kids? Look at their national team.......it sucks bad! Bloody english... but the wives like the accent.....hahahahaha

            If it is not four days a week then it is not academy. I agree how sad and funny it is when parents pay for travel soccer for kids at young ages and they only practice two days a week. Academies believe in training more at the younger ages and no way is three games in two days normal.

              I think the better question is how does a country with only 200 years of history dwarf your sh!tty little country in nearly every category -- other than false pride and arrogance? How disappointing for you. But I'm guessing you aren't reading this board from England so it seems you already figured that out and moved to the better country.

                            Which would have a fixed curriculum and standard published. It is consistently applied for every pupil without denying the equal growth opportunity for all! That makes the application of the word academy more meaningful.

                              ...and tell your women to learn basic hygiene. Apparently 4 out of 5 don't bathe daily. Many go at least 3 days without a shower.

                              ...maybe a good soccer tactic. Keep opponents at a distance!
