Do clubs really need DOCs? If they provide oversight to a program but lack organizational skills, wouldn't clubs be better off hiring an Executive Director with business acumen accountable to a Board and 1-2 coaching directors to manage staff that reporting to ED?

Sorry, you won't be able to go to the next board meeting claiming that people on TS backed your brilliant organizational chart.

Vast majority of clubs don't utilize the DOC correctly. Usually considered a strong coach, and ends up running 4 teams. To be effective they should have 1 STRONG team at the most, and using the remaining time coaching the coaches, evaluations of players/coaches, implement/tweak curriculum, recruiting players/coaches/sponsors. There are maybe 4-6 (NEFC, GPS, STARS, REVS, BOLTS) clubs that actually utilize there DOC properly and has paid off in the club growing and improving, and have a proven curriculum. IMO, GPS has the lead in the DOC department, with NEFC coming in a distant 2nd.
