    Soccer in USA/MLS is ridiculed

Soccer in America or the MLS is ridiculed. Just look at players like Lampard or even Jermain Defoe, they refuse to play in America until we overpay them.

What can we do to get rid of this stigma behind football in America? I think everyone here can clearly see it.

    Is this a riddle?
    "until we overpay them"?
Great. Let them stay where they are. Clearly, playing a great game may not be their top priority either.
As for overpay, you get what you earn. In this country when the MLS starts to maintain a larger audience requiring major TV/Radio/Media contracts then more money will go toward the clubs and players salaries. When the MLS teams (and other pro teams) are filling the stadiums as seen in the other professional sports teams in this country, then more money will be available. Until then, one must accept reality and that reality is soccer is a second tier sport in the US. It is certainly getting better, but still not the financial equal to baseball, football, hockey and basketball.
Heck, golf and tennis are well above soccer here in the US

Besides, we already have over-paid athletes here. Do we need more?? I would like to see a cap placed on player salaries.....maybe 500,000....perhaps a million. I suspect that about 80-90% of professional athletes could not find any other job in this country where they would get paid 500K to a million.

    Overpaid is very accurate.

Are we over paying them or giving them what they could have earned in EPL

You can make the argument that we are underpaying the non stars

You should get your facts straight. Frank Lampard was paid 6.5 million pounds in 2013. His MLS salary is estimated at $8 million dollars, which is a discount to 6.5 million pounds. You could argue that maybe no EPL team would have paid Lampard the equivalent of about $8 million this season, although given how well he has played this year from Man City, that's questionable. And Frank is only signed for a season and a half so it isn't like they promised this salary over an extended time.

Soccer in America is getting better. Its not the EPL or Spain or Germany, but still pretty good.

I don't understand what you mean by "overpay". German and Spanish players refuse to play in England unless they are paid more than in their home country. A sign of a successful league is the ability to pay more for players than other leagues can pay. It was a sign of weakness when good US players were going to play in 2d class European leagues because MLS can't afford to pay them as much. Now MLS is able to get good US players to come back to the US and is able to attract good foreign players to come here.

Lazy Mr. Klinnsman is the biggest problem with US soccer. Wants to export our best, young players and their training to Europe rather than get his hands dirty doing some training and marketing of the game right here.

Altidore is getting paid 30 million to play in the MLS. Do you think any BPL side would pay Altidore that much $$$?

                Doubt it.

I think everyone in Europe sees the MLS as a retirement league for old players out of their prime. All the young talents in the world want to play in Europe, not America.

Heck, even our MNT coach, Jurgen, wants his players in Europe and is angry all the American players like Clint are coming to play in the MLS. That really says something about the MLS and how bad it is.

Absolutely ridiculous that this America hating slug could earn that kind of money with his level (lack) of talent. At least he is based in Canada.

Does anyone know anything about the status of America's best striker, Juan Agudelo?

Mr. Klinnsman has one job. Put the best possible team together. Marketing is not his job. And training outside of the MNT is not his job. If Europe is the best training ground for our players then that is where they should train.

MLS is equivalent to the ABA. Bush league. And a good spot for players who cannot play in the big time.

I understand paying Clint that kind of money but ALTIDORE? Come on... Altidore's scored 1 goal for Sunderland in the past 2 years And even I think Clint Dempsey is slightly overpaid in the MLS.

How can MLS fans be "excited" that he's coming to play here? He's labeled as the worst striker in the Premier League by most European analysts and now he's getting a fat paycheck? That alone just speaks volumes about the MLS and how desperate they are to bring players from Europe.

Just doesn't make sense to me and I don't know what MLS is doing. Bringing in players from Europe who are about to retire like Gerrard isn't doing the league ANY good. You're playing millions of dollars for a couple years of mediocre service. Why not use that money to develop young players, YOUNG HOMEGROWN players? I'm just shaking my head and this is why I will rarely watch the MLS. I'd much rather focus my time on the Premier League, Spanish Primera and the Bundesliga where the talent is authentic and there's a sense of urgency to each game where relegation battles up the stakes for each game.
