Great for SM but to echo the comments on us soccer puzzling to say the least. It looks like a favor more than anything. Press, Wambach, leroux and Morgan means we are all set there!

How much longer will Wambaugh and Morgan play. Good coaches are always preparing for a players departure.

Where did she play club soccer. I am assuming she played HS for Winchester?

She played HS at BB&N in the ISL. She played club for FC Stars.

ECNL was in it's infancy when she played for the Stars. Most of her club years was playing in Region 1. Same for Sam Mewis.

Uhhhhh, she lived in MA, played town, club and HS here. This shows that top talent can be developed in this state. The issue is how much of it is who coached her, where she played as opposed to hard work and dedication on her part. My own opinion is that success is primarily owned by the individual and not by the people who guided them along the way. Either way she is to be congratulated for this incredible honor. I am sure that she passed 10,000 touches long ago.

totally agree about who to credit for development. of course it's good for Mass. because it will be noted she lived here, but the only credit Mass. (or any state) actually deserves is the extent that her development exceeds what it would have been elsewhere. since many parts of the US and the world have opportunities to play soccer, especially for players who show that they are good at it, Mass. or Stars or her college didn't "develop her," she developed herself. Good for her

Couldn't agree more. The credit all goes to her and her family for supporting her. Congratulations to all of them.

Ellis continues the US Soccer tradition of building a roster based on individual athleticism as opposed to a team of players whose strengths and capabilities appropriately complement one another.

A formula for ongoing problems when it comes to facing the best national team sides from Europe and Asia. It's a shame really. Could be so much different with the right set of hands on the wheel at the USWNT.

Or perhaps women in the rest of the world finally got around to playing soccer and the USA's head start is not so much of an advantage?

The two possibilities aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, they're complementary.
