    Guest Playing Only

So here is an interesting thought and I have no Idea of the logistics. Since almost no college coaches ever come to watch regular season games, the time and money of traveling, and growing club fees; why not just guest play in tournaments?

I know since you would be a guest player, the amount of playing time would not be set but there is no guarantee of playing time on a club team anyway. This would allow to train with different coaches and teams, learn new things, and be seen by college coaches in tournaments as i am sure if you invited them and told the team coach he would be apt to give you some play time if the college coach showed up. Plus look at all the money, headache and frustration you could save.

Just a wild thought but could make for a good disscussion.

My son is a top player and never guest played anywhere. I always thought that most teams do notcare about winning and they only care about their clicks. Other teams may look at it as lost playing time for their kid and I could understand that. Just try to find the best coach who is also a great person and eberything will turn outok.

I think you have to be registered through a club to obtain a player pass. Maybe a way around that with US Club, but not FYSA. And your kid would have to be a rock star to be invited to guest play on a regular basis. Usually just weak teams who are shorthanded are looking for guests, and then the training would be minimal.

What you are describing is another example of what is wrong with youth sports, especially youth soccer. If the only reason your kid is playing soccer is for a scholarship, you are doing it wrong. The value of team sports is far greater than trying to earn a scholarship. Players learn to work within a group, work hard with a single goal with a group. They learn leadership skills and hopefully about fair play. And the list goes on, but you know that.

All that said, I completely understand where you are coming from and that is the other thing that is terribly wrong with youth soccer. The cost to play is ridiculous. The amount you spend the last 4 years of club ball would more than pay for college in most instances if you would have invested it instead. That is wrong. Team sports are so valuable in developing young people but we have made it so much about chasing a scholarship that we have turned the entire thing into a money making machine. We have been convinced that we have to be with a certain club at certain tournaments to be in front of the coaches to get a scholarship.

So I understand the logic behind your question but I think it is more valuable to get with a good group of people and learn, play, win and lose together.

I agree I once thought the greedy way to get guess playing time it works for the short term but in the end you have to be part of something in order for your child to understand winning and loosing and poor performs for him or her that cost certain let downs with teams. Commitment is the the key not riding in on the white horse to so calls save a team !
