      Portland Timbers

Last 2 coaching hires Caleb & Jay have something in common.

Neither had any experience coaching at a professional level.

      Keep Portland weird.

Should put an opl parent as the coach. They are the best idiots around and certainly know more than anyone else. P.s. I heard their is a super duper league starting but it's 40k a year and you get to even play for your kid as they do what they do best....sit the bench.

And Caleb is a fantastic coach. Not many other MLS coaches I would want more.

Please. Most of the OPL coaches are 10x the coach he is. He just hands out foam fingers and people think he's good. I'm willing to bet the FCP coaches would of had them win the league this past year.

When and where did you play for him?

Haven't meet any of his Timbers players say he was a fantastic MLS coach.

              Please tell us.

Doesn't matter who the coach is. As long as GW is involved the Timbers will be a loser.

                      Rankings tell the story

When the leagues (NASL & USL) have teams ranked above the MLS sides it tells you how strong the MLS is or isn't.

Using the ranking of minor league american soccer clubs against themselves as a baseline to draw insight and perspective?

In a effort to assign praise a coach or team.

Based on the rankings Portland has one of the better mediocre MLS/USL/NASL teams.

The rankings you linked have highlighted what socialist structure and single entity professional soccer league (MLS) actually produces: no clear standouts just a lump of average teams that are very evenly matched on the field.

Coaches like Arena, Schmid have figured out how coach succesfully in this cluserf&$! league year after year.

Porter won't be around long enough to figure it out. Which is fantasitic.

So which comes first getting the talent or coaching? GW has ZERO track record of success.

Porter on the other hand is a proven winner!

                          Proven Winner alright

He won the distinction as the only coach in the last 20 years of US Soccer History not to qualify our side for u20 world cup in 2011.

Winning games at a level nobody cares about mens college soccer is hardly the calling card of a professional coach.

When anything has mattered at a professional or international level he not only loses he makes an indelible mark on history in the process..

Are you for real?? You must know absolutely nothing about soccer if you think any coach in Oregon could coach professional soccer. They can just about run a car never mind a team. I would say 95% are just about OK for Rec soccer. The reason Oregon youth soccer is so bad is because:
                            1. The board members have no knowledge to work out who is a good DOC
                            2. The DOC's all have ego's and care about their salary
                            3. There is no direction. OPL could benefit from a Technical director but no one would listen because they will get found out.

                            Best post yet!!
