Oregon D1 soccer, not a good year

Pac 12 standings, Oregon in 10th place, Oregon State winless on the entire season and in 12th place. UP having a losing season. One more week or so, and all of those programs can shut it down for the season.

Oregon State is a complete trainwreck and how Linus put himself in this position (14 freshman?) is something that has a lot of people wondering about. He better hope that those 14 get better in the coming year or two.

Oregon has to be wondering if they are ever going to get above 8th place. They seem a little better this year, but not much. If Oregon care's about women's soccer, which is a good question although they cared enough to clean house two years ago, then next year is critical for Kat. She has to show some progress. But it's not like there is a weak team in the Pac 12, other than Oregon State.

And how the mighty have fallen. UP is now looking like Gonzaga and the WCC is now a three team league. It's bad enough for them to have a losing season, but to see who they lost to, much less earning a tie with Oregon State, well things don't look very good. GS better hope this is a one year anomolie.

Kat needs to substitute. They often make to overtime and lose but looks like same 13 players. Starting strong but finish tired. Most close games including Stanford lost at end or in ot

I thought Oregon would be stronger this year as the games I saw in the spring they looked very good. I've watched a couple of Pac 12 games and did notice they appear to be losing at the end with one exception: UCLA. They got stomped.

Watched two Oregon State Pac 12 network games and thought the girls tried but needed more depth. I am wondering how long before Linus gets canned. It should have happened a couple of years ago.

U of P went from being a powerhouse to tying both Oregon and Oregon State. I don't get it because they have great recruiting classes. Has to be time for a change!!

Really, do you think? Who said they only need 14 players? They have 14 freshmen, many of whom are getting a lot of time. He has no seniors, 2 juniors and 5 sophomores. So next year unless a bunch of those freshmen get better, it's going to be basically the same team and they will have similar results.

Linus also has to stop recruiting lumbering girls. He has no one that is fast on that team and very little quickness. Did he forget that he needs to recruit girls who are athletic? Yes, I think the time for a change has come in Corvallis. And I hear one might be coming here in Portland as well.

Let's hope he has a strong group of recruits coming in! Even with 21 players there could be significant issues with injury. It is easy to blame the players but I have to look at the coach and wonder WTH??

I'm sorry. I can only imagine how frustrating this is for those whose children have signed up to play with this school. I know a couple of their players. One is very good and I feel sorry for her, the other I was sort of surprised was recruited but I am not a coach.

Isn't it fair to say that girls tend to improve between their freshmen and sophomore years? So if they have 14, I would think this team would be much better in the next few years as they mature. Unless it was a HORRIBLE recruiting class.

Yes, this is my observation too. They have one senior who is amazing for about 30 minutes and then all the years of injury set in and she slows down and barely moves. They have another that plays in every game and probably should not be playing D1. Very frustrating as we are Ducks fans and we feel let down with their women's soccer.

A couple of them have already stepped up. Hoping for a very strong upcoming class of recruits.

Sorry, I gave the wrong numbers originally. He has 15 Freshmen, 5 Sophs and 4 Jrs. So that means he has a roster of 24, all of them are returning. His class for this year can't be very big, unless he plans on carrying a ton of players. If he brings in 6, that means a roster of 30. Blech. He's probably only going to bring in 3-4. So I think the hope for a strong class coming in is pretty small.

Stepped up on the team or stepped up relative to the competition? BTW, I just checked, they've only scored 3 goals all season. Those that have stepped up must be defenders, because no forward or mid has stepped up.

That sucks. sometimes I do not understand why coaches do the things they do. I hope for you and your player that it gets better. Maybe they can find their mojo. A roster of 30+ sucks in a different way.

Well, the PAC 12 is a hard road for any college. It sounds like a young team. There is little doubt that Linus screwed up somewhere. The question is whether women's sports will illicit the same response as would happen in men's sports.. ie they would fire him. I have doubts as it has been going down hill for some time.

You have a very good keeper. I know two of your forwards and was surprised that one of them ended up at that level. But, I am not a coach. The ball doesn't seem to make it out of the midfield much anyway so I don't know if it is a forward issue. Let's hope next year is a better season.

                              Go Beavs
