there is no way they would merge - SF is to money hungry to share revenue with another club

it's crazy to think that this small north shore club can survive - they would have to merge to have any chance at all of retaining talent at the upper age groups -

my daughter left last year for a competitor club. it's a good learning club at the lower levels but there is no upside above U12 - they play Maple (which is awful) and no NPL or ECNL....they do have some very good coaches.

Maple is a really watered down league - esp. on the girls side.

Why would anyone play here? My kids playedagainest this club for 2-3 years when we were in Maple - unprofessional coaches, screaming at players....not very appealing. don't just walk away...run

As opposed to the rest of the northeast...

The common sense challenge this sensible and well-intended approach presents is that a consensus, on both definition and expectations, is reached between coaches and parents. Never going to happen with all the egomaniacs and lunatics.
There is more of a consensus than you apparently see

Elite - DAP, ECNL, NPL, USYSA National
                    B - NEP Premiership, ECNL-NPL, R1 Regional
                    C - NEP Championship, MAPLE

Not perfect but in the ballpark
I think this exchange basically speaks to the whole point

The word from parents on non ECNL Stars teams is that they subsidize the ECNL teams - they get seconds on coaching etc...

I'd say that's a little simplistic, but that's the reality of the club soccer pay to play pyramid, Stars is no more or less guilty of it as anyone else. That's not to suggest there's anything wrong with it, just an observation. I'm as free market as they come.

My kid has played in Maple, NEP and NPL leagues.

Assessment of the Leagues in terms of most competitive games in rank order:

                            1. Maple: Each game was a war. But each year, less teams in the league.
                            2. NEP: Most games are competitive, but too many lousy MPS teams
                            3. NPL: Complete Joke. 2 good teams, rest are the same or worse than any team you could find in Massachusetts.

Sorry, it's a fact. I bought into the NPL thing at first, thinking more exposure, better competition, better opportunities to be "seen". The more I saw the games and the money I was spending traveling to CT, NY, NJ and PA every other weekend, the more I realized I had been duped. I felt like I bought a lemon at a used car dealership. Sorry, nobody is watching. Complete and utter scam. Kid back in the NEP and couldn't be happier. More time for friends, more time for family, games are just as good. If kid is good enough can be seen at top level tournaments.
