    Inadequate referees

Is it me or has the refereeing been extremely poor this year? More often than not, the referees have been absolutely horrendous. There have been a few diamonds in the ruff, but overall they have been uncontrolling, inconsistant and some seeing themselves as more important than the game itself. Games are getting out of control and the players are the ones who are paying for it through injuries and overall poor sportsmanship. Is anyone grading their performances???

yes, apparently you are know it all. When are you taking the ref class and jumping in to show everyone how its done?

I have taken the class and passed. I realize that many of the decisions are made in a split second, but the quality of the refs is not growing at the same pace that soccer is. There are a few refs trying to get it right, but for the most part the efforts are half assed. In saying this, the effects have been to both our team as well as teams we have played. There just does not seem to be any guidance for newer refs.

The players, parents and coaches are held to standards and the refs should be as well. There are parents out there saying ridiculous things to the side judge constantly and nobody does anything about it. Refs are under a lot of pressure and younger ones probably afraid to make calls due to the verbal abuse. It just seems to be out of control, and needs to be fixed.

The use of automated referees has been talked about in the future .

          Refs

Supply lagging demand. You see it all over, especially at Disney where you pay top $ and often receive "unique" officiating.

the biggest problem is not many younger refs. Watching games this weekend with older boys many centers and AR had problems keeping up with speed of play.

THE PROBLEM IS YOU PARENTS. My daughter became a ref at 13 ( she is 21 now) and after 1 season quite because of all the abuse she took from grown men and hyper women when she was referring U10 games. Many kids quite because of it.

My son too who plays college right now quit after two seasons. He said Dad "half these people have no clue."

Please, the problem does not rest with just one group. You know damn well that the quality is poor right now, both in refs and control of parents. I sit on the sidelines and listen to parents who have no clue and think everytime their kid falls, someone fouled them.
The refs don't deserve to be yelled at from the parents, especially the side the parents sit on where AR's have to hear it continuously.

Frnkly al I ask for is for them to pay attention, keep the games under control and make the same calls against both teams. This is not happening in most cases!

I don't see any Field Marshals anymore and the ones I have seen don't do anything! The problem is much bigger than just the refs, but they are getting paid and the parents are putting out a lot of money only to get inadequate refs. Both sides need some refining!

CDL (an example that has ref fees easily findable) pays the ref $50 and the linesmen get half. Not bad so far for a couple of hours. But then the states charges them $100 a year to register, 5 $50 shirts, other equipment, gas, driving time, getting stiffed on rainouts or sitting during hours long lightning delays, etc., and the profits start to disappear. Plus how are they learning? Do 10-20 weekends a year of games and watch a couple of online videos. How good would a player be doing that? How good would anyone be at any job? Would you scream at a McDonald's worker for not being a gourmet chef?

You think Gerbil shares that? Have you seen the articles where its full time workers have to live in run down motels because they aren't paid enough to rent an apartment?

The problem is every call is subjective. You will never agree a ref is calling it both ways, because 1) maybe he isn't because he did not see it the way you saw it; (2) you are inherently biased towards your own team. Its Ok, all parents are biased towards their own kids teams. But because of that, you and all others will ALWAYS think a ref missed calls or did not call it both ways.

Refs can't win. Here is a suggestion, how about the parents have to ref the games themselves. One parent from each team is in ref gear and runs up and down each side of the field. If they disagree about a call, they leg wrestle at center circle to see who wins the call.

Actually, I recognize many calls that should go against our team. I have seen linesmen who don't truly understand what constitutes off sides and many who don't even stay In line with the 2nd to last defender. I watch refs who feel they are more important than the game. I watch head refs ignore the calls from their AR's who are in a better position to make the call.
There are some good refs out there who at least make an effort, which is greatly appreciated. Problem is........they are few and far between!
