    Boycott--West Pines Kickoff Tournament

This is a message to all clubs out there.... DO NOT waste your time and money going to the West Pines tournament this year.

I am a DOC at a club in Miami-Dade County. Our club has for many years supported this tournament as use it as a gauge to see where our teams stand against local competition. I have to say that this club has shown everyone that loyalty means absolutely nothing to them. Today they fired the founder of the club whom I have known for many years. The man, Tony March, put all his heart and soul into the soccer program. I have seen that man give money and food out of his own pocket to players in need. I have seen him take children who needed a chance to be seen and provided them with the proper channels to succeed. I have seen him pour his heart & soul at representing the league and his club in the most professional manner.

And what does he get in return?? A swift kick in the ass. Not even a thank you!!

West Pines is a disgrace to the local soccer community. Yes, us DOC's and clubs have been hearing talk about how poor the current- so-called leaders- are poorly managing the club. We have heard the accusations of racism against anyone who is not of Latin decent, and we have heard about the lack of interest in any kids over the age of 10.

It all appears to be true. The parents and players should be appalled about the performance of this club who used to be a Powerhouse! It appears that all the talk and mumbling about the "new DOC" was going to help the once great club, but instead has hindered it to the point of extinction. I have received multiple calls from parents asking if there are spots left in various age groups. Of course I would love to accommodate, but it did raise a red flag when all the calls were coming from West Pines.

Youth soccer is for the kids and to have good, health competition locally. It appears that West Pines has forgotten all about the kids and the people who are here to help, teach, and coach the children. There appears to be a different agenda.

With that being said, I feel that all local clubs need to BOYCOTT the West Pines tournament. They don't know the value of the children and the families that they have there. It would appear that they need time to figure out the future of their club. Maybe they need to forget the tournament and concentrate on what matters most--the kids!!

It's not always about the money guys! You need to get your priorities straight!!!!

Tony, it's been a pleasure working with you. Our doors are always open should you choose to make a move. I know that I speak for MANY of the clubs both in Miami and Broward county.

Own the boycott statement and put a name if you want us to follow!!!! If you feel that strongly (which I have no issue with and applaud) then own the movement.

I cannot sign my name at this time for fear of retaliation from the crazy peoe at West Pines. They are not worth putting any of my family or current players and members in danger. I M also going to accommodate some of their former players and they do not need any further drama. It's all about safety.

You can choose to follow suit anonymously and still make a point.

If he did or does such a great job then he will have no issue getting a job somewhere else. This is America and jobs are not guaranteed so it should be looked at as a business deal and nothing more.

I hate to say but most people are glad to not be forced to deal with him.

          Now that is the truth!

Just a question, but doesn't boycotting a major fundraiser for the club ultimately hurt the kids still at the club? It's all about the kids, right? Think about it.

Hurting that local club financially seems to help you and hurt them. Seems to me that a letter signed by all the local DOCs stating what you just posted to their board was be a logical first step rather than an all out boycott of what I'm guessing is a significant amount of money. Sure, it will put a strain on the current board, but you know darn well that they will not personally suffer financially from it.

I have no financial gain if they have no tournament. My coaches will find alternate tournaments to attend. It does not hurt the kids there. They still have a coach and can continue to play. It hurts the deep pockets of the high paid DOC. The parents paid their fees. Parents have asked for refunds as the season hasn't started and the club is playing hard ball and not issuing refunds. It is about the kids, but amazingly enough, the parents that have called me have the same complaint--poor management of the club and no one providing answers as to where the money goes.

This is America and everyone is free to express their opinion. No one is obligated to agree or disagree. Everyone can make their own decisions, but do we not seem like enablers if we continue to support a club that has lost interest in all their players over age 10. Look at their rosters, what club carries six u8 teams? Four U9 teams? And five u10 teams? But cannot seem to fill a roster for some of the boys older teams and has managed to lose 50% of the girls from their club.

Just remember that negative news travels at a much faster speed than the positive.

Just putting the information out there and we done can put on their big boy pants make their own decisions.

Funny. I never mentioned anything about you gaining financially. But your were still quick to deny it.

You also obviously believe that this club puts all the profits from their tournament into the pockets of their DOC. Is that a new club policy this year or does that policy apply to last year's DOC as well? Are you really saying that none of the tournament money ever benefitted the kids? It was just cash for the DOC?

And, are you saying that your club wouldn't benefit from the numbers and talent that would flock your way if that club disbanded due to lack of funds? You just bragged about the numbers coming your way just because of this firing. Would those numbers not increase if there was no club at all next year?

                      You are not making sense.

Yes, none of the tournament money EVER benefits kids at WPU. Go to guidestar.org, register for free. Look up West Pines United and you will see the most recent tax return prepared by the club treasurer of record. The most recent return is the one for the first year that the DOC was here. You will clearly see how the cash is allocated to bogus expenses. Office equipment, and then IT to be very frank and clear. Also so there is no confusion, you can check ANY NON Profit 501-3c soccer club to see how clearly they document and itemize each expense, instead of clumping them under general category such as office equipment. Who uses office equipment for that amount on a soccer field???
How much in admin fees does any one club accumulate?

Of course, any club would benefit from any additional players they would receive. The point is, the parents contacted us, we did not contact them in order to raise our numbers and increase our money. We are just accommodating parents who are seeking a solution.
