    Women sue FIFA

Elite female soccer players are threatening to sue FIFA over a plan to use artificial turf -- rather than natural grass -- at next year’s Women’s World Cup tournament, saying such a move amounts to gender discrimination.

While I think all games played at that level should be on grass and be consistent with what the men play on, to call it gender discrimination is a bit of a stretch.

"But that explanation not good enough for the athletes, who say artificial turf is “wholly unjustified as a financial imperative.”“The installation of natural grass would cost but a fraction of your organization’s budgets thus defeating any defense of undue hardship,” the letter stated.

Of course it's a financial decision. No way FIFA is going to pay to install grass then re-install turf. I'm a fan, but it is women's soccer. It will never get equal $ to men's. That's the cold hard reality. I'm sure the men at FIFA think Title IX is hysterical.

They could simply install natural turf over the artificial and then remove it. It is a double standard.

Your last sentence is the precise reason that a lawsuit is necessary. The "its only women's soccer argument" is a similar argument that has been made over and over again in history. Every group that has been made to feel lesser has had to fight for equality because of this mentality.

If only it would get canceled, so that precious air-time could be devoted to better uses. Besides close-ups of Alex Morgan, the USWNT is painful to watch, in more ways than one.

They are not suing under Title IX, which only applies to educational institutions anyway, but under Canadian and European law. Most western countries have anti-sex discrimination laws. If you want to avoid them, find a 3d world country.

                  They could definitely do that

That method makes the natural grass very soft and creates weak spots at the seems. It actually makes the soccer more dangerous. Additionally it doesn't play like a real grass field

How many grass fields even exist in Canada. Do you think the big CFL stadiums use grass. Think again

The key part of the OPs statement is not that girls soccer is irrelevant (the $s already tell that story plainly enough) but that the ladies are getting hysterical. Silly girls. Girl power, yay!

That kind of behavior is what makes the public at large think maybe they should get themselves back in the kitchen where they will be happier and less of a nuisance.

They should install some fancy soap arrangements and incense around the playing area so these little princesses don't get too stressed out while playing. Then some bath salts and a nice facial. Maybe some chocolate therapy, ladies? Some bonbons? How about a valium chaser?

Back to being mens' burdens again after a nice run of seeming like mature adults. I think its this Obama culture that sets them back. Sugar daddy Uncle Sam. Uncle Sugar.

I bet the women will dive and fake injury a lot less than the tough guys in Brazil.

Men who play soccer are actually women. It is a girls game.
