Excited about the start of a new season of practice, league play, tournaments and in our particular case something new with HS soccer as well. What I hope for this year...
1- that more parents (including me) will decide to let the kids play, the coaches coach, and the refs ref. Makes life a lot less stressful.
2- that more kids will enjoy this time in their lives and truly enjoy playing a great sport at a high level, rather than it feeling like a job
3- that kids will also be sure to take the time to try something else for fun to break the monotony and lower the repetitive injury risk - pick up a basketball or a tennis racket or find a pool
4- that the kids who do have a dream of making it to the next level - whether that's a higher level league team, DA, college or even pro - realize that only working on your game during team practice and games won't cut it. Put in the work, don't whine and the results will be there! Getting better at something is an awful lot of fun.
5- that tournament organizers will try harder to stay organized in all facets both on and off the field - schedules, referee assignments, logistics, score updates, bathroom facilities, parking, etc.
6- that more parents (including me) remember that someone who we think isn't a great coach or referee is still likely a good person, and that the opinion on the first shouldn't influence how we treat the second
Finally I hope that all of you, your kids and teammates have a safe, productive and fun soccer season.
