    GPS low level tournaments

I have noticed that at the number of tournaments that GPS enters has risen dramatically, and about 30-40% are low-level tournaments.....most of which are GPS tournaments. This weekend was in Lancaster.

My question is why have so many low-level tournaments. Is it for training or a way earn as many gotsoccer points without really attending very competitive tournaments?

I don't have an opinion as to whether this is a good or bad thing. Many of the top clubs in the NY, NJ, PA, MD areas play in about 10-11 tournaments per year. Perhaps this is the right thing to do??

It's not to earn GS points. Since they're weak, those tournaments award very few points. A decent team can win a tournament and not gain any points.

GPS is a FOR-profit company. Is making money a bad thing?

No it should be for -profit actually. It motivates the growth of a company.

I think if you have dealt with them you would understand. Over and over they chant they are all about developing but they are not shy about saying they hope they can drum up business with camps and coaching local high schools. Thats the only way they can retain their visa with the club.

I had several families warn us against playing for them but our kid wanted to play with some friends. After 3 coaches in a very short period of time we finally said enough. They go to low level tournaments so they can win something and keep their customers. They will never attend a real top their tournament as they don't want the results. You will never see them at a tournament like the Jefferson cup.

We left them like you. Here is my experience.

                  On the down side
                  - Many different coaches for the same team and very disorganized.
                  - They run our town program. And for the money it is not worth it but it was better than before
                  - They abuse their staff

                  On the plus side
                  - We have gone to their camps. And everyone has been great.
                  - The one town HS that I know they coached was well done.

                  Bottom line
If they run low-level tournies to make money or to get points, all the power to them. I wish they treated their employees better but aside from that, I hope they do well.

It was called the NEP Summer Cup, basically a set of games running before and after the Summer Showcase.

Looks like a D3 Women's showcase. I guess if your daughter is shooting this low , just skip soccer and go play intramural at a State School

D3! Oh the horror! Anyone shooting this low shouldn't live! And a STATE SCHOOL! Oh I think I am going to be SICK!

Muffy simply must go D1 and ONLY to an IVY. What in the world would the people at the club say if she went didn't? Our family is simply better than that! Now off to Tennis lessons.............
