Rumor has it that the soon to be announced Thorns Academy is going to be set up as a new club run by the Timbers. The Academy teams will play in OYSA Timbers league against all of the TA teams (who will likely have lost some of their best players to the Academy teams). Timbers really have no other option as they were recently denied membership in ECNL and can't get in without having an actual club with a track record of success from U14 to U18. Putting Academy teams in the US Youth Soccer National League, though possible, seems unlikely and if the Academy doesn't actually form teams to play in a league and showcases then it is no different than the Thorns ODP...

They didn't apply for ECNL. Individual clubs do it. Which leads me to believe that your info is nonsense.

And what if they actually did apply for ECNL? How does that change your argument?

Yes, the thorns academy teams will use league games to prepare for ecnl events.
The long term goal is to combine ecnl with the current mls DA Program and create a true elite league that not only gives the best competition but also helps identify talent for college, professional and national teams.
This is the wave of the future and I think it's very exciting and a positive step towards consolidating and developing talent
God knows Oregon needs this!

ECNL and MLS DA are working together to form a true Elite Nationwide League. It doesn't matter if you are US Club/USYS...it simply won't matter. They want this to happen right away, the walls have been knocked down....even with it being fasttracked it still will take time.
by the end of the 2014 MLS Season the MLS wants each one of the clubs to have formed a youth club alliance....right now it stands just over 2/3 of MLS clubs have accomplished that.
