Lauren James looks ready to fulfill her potential

Two games into the new Women’s Super League season, there are moments when it looks like Lauren James is playing a different game to everyone else.

The Chelsea attacker has a level of ball control that few in the world, let alone England, can replicate. Still, it’s taken time and challenges behind the scenes for the 20-year-old to get to this point, and there is a feeling that more is yet to come, that she can go from being a player of great moments to, simply, a great player.

The talent has never been in doubt. James, whose brother, Reece, also plays for Chelsea, just needed to find the right environment to develop in. She left the club’s academy as a youngster to join Arsenal before moving on to Manchester United at the age of 16, searching for more minutes on the field. That was as much a sign of her ambition as it was United’s.
