Thoughts on Titan FC playing in DPL the coming season

Does anyone have any thoughts on girl teams in Titan FC joining the DPL? It appears they will be in the Northwest region with opposing teams located in Spokane, Oregon, and Idaho. Does this mean that some of the league games will require air travel and hotel stays? Does registration fee cover coach travel expense too?

It’s basically the new WPL. Shouldn’t be much difference. Expect air travel for a couple events but they do a pretty good job hosting those.

absolute waste of time and money. Is the titans team getting tough games locally? Then there is zero reason to fly for league games multiple times a year. What a ridiculous money grab so you can put a special patch on your shoulder and brag about travel games. No your fee will not cover travel so expect your team dues to be very high as you will need to pay for coach travel and if your kid is older you will need to pay for the chaperones, and their hotel and car rentals for the team. Spokane plays rcl and dpl, they are div 2 team in 4th place in our division . . . but play in the elite dpl league. Level of play looks very uneven in dpl too, to with some very lopsided games. I'd be pissed if I paid to travel and won 7-0 what a waste of everyones time.

First thing you need to understand is the Titans are a for profit Washington limited liability corporation. The owner has developed a very profitable niche by offering a hyper local version of "Premier lite". His target market is 6-11 year old's and he has a totable addressable market that max's out at 24 teams in an affluent area like mid-central Bellevue down to a dozen teams in a more middle class area like Puyallup. Comparably there are very very few Titans HS age teams. Most families after they get $15,000 in, find something better. Every few years he try's out some unknown "super" "elite" "premier" league in order get at least one more year out these kids before they quit the Titans. If he can get one more year out of every 13 year old player before they quit the Titans, that is another $0.5 Million/year for the owner (the business plan is from the movie the "Music Man").

The worst part about the new Titans elite teams is they are going to have to fly to Idaho and beyond to play RCL/NPSL division 3 type teams that they could drive to Renton to play. Us parents need to start doing our due diligence before we spend this kind of money :(

Good analysis, but is this the fault of us parents? Clubs like Titans that are blocked from ECNL are just trying to give parents a shiny “elite” league. That’s what DPL, EA, GA, Elite 64 are all about. Look what happened to Bellevue Rush? They couldn’t get into ECNL so they merged with Eastside to give the parents what they want. Why are we surprised this is happening? It would be much better if there was a single Washington state league with promotion/relegation, any club with at least 3 teams can enter. This is what WYS should be working on, but no…

Hasn't Titans only been around for 10 years? I'd imagine it takes a few years to build up the youth system so that you can field high-school aged teams (and seems like they're starting to get decent '08 teams going)

10-12 years ago sounds about right. However, his original business model was U-13 to U-18 prep for college scholarships. He didn't have any of the diaper ages back then. However, when he couldn't get any of these high school kids into even Div 3 college programs (where in some cases even rec kids make teams) his kids were one year and done. So he switched his model to the super young ones before they were eligible to join Eastside or Crossfire. Frankly if you ever drive by his house on Country Club Drive (you can't make this stuff up) you will see his new business model is working out very very well for him!!

Who cares about his business model - we live in a capitalist society and we're just customers of these clubs. But, interesting point about switching the model, we'll see if he can build things up at the older age groups from their farm system (or will they all move on)

Titans is the future, EA will surpass ECNL soon anyway. Boise is better than road trip to Spokane any day!

                              What is EA?

isn’t there only ECNL vs GAL ?
