A point brought up a few times already was that it cost nothing. That is a huge benefit as well. ECNL gets expensive, the money saved could be used towards college for college bound kids or for flight tickets for pro bound kids(in case they have to travel to several tryouts, international perhaps even).

Perhaps XF could consider making other age groups free, to compete with the academy. But not sure how they would make up the lost revenue, could they make players sign a contract so that only XF can sell the players off?

The purpose of the MLS academies is to find and develop players to use or sell. If it ends up that these academies provide an environment that helps kids with playing in college, that’s fine but it is a by product not the main focus.

People are arguing opinions. Sounders Academy isn't for everyone. It's not the "best" option for everyone to go pro or to go to college. It is the most direct, local option to a professional MLS contract. Nothing more, nothing less. Other options exist and they may be better, equal, or worse than Sounders Academy. What is the best option is often dependent on the individual situation and individual.

the Sounders are playing 16 year olds, praying that someone will buy them to no avail.
