In 3A Prep, Holy Names, Lakeside, Roosevelt and Blanchet all will be good. They seem pretty even at this point, but if the Blanchet gk is healthy they could be very strong. Garfield, Ballard and Lincoln all should be decent as well but probably not as strong as those listed above. Auburn Riverside will be strong. 4A it’s likely Skyline, Issaquah and Camas per usual.

Metro League is stacked. And unlike KingCo they take a look at the teams before deciding divisions (Sound/Mountain). It is not 100% by school size (2A, 3A) but also by prior win records & competition

this is because the private schools have the majority of ECNL/GA players in Seattle

my guess based on healthy player rosters: Holy Names > Roosevelt > Bishop Blanchet > Seattle Prep

all depends on what team gels

I’d put holy names/lakeside/prep first (just like last year) and basically even but think Roosevelt and Blanchet are closer to those two than they were last year (and could be better depending on which team clicks), but otherwise seems about right. Of those teams Blanchet lost the least to graduation, and gets back a very strong player who was injured last year, so they could be right up there with the top teams. The league structure this year is a bit different as all those teams play each other twice and are going to beat up on each other.

Why do private schools have most of the ECNL/GA players? Do they recruit with scholarships?

Socioeconomic. For the most part the same mindset that goes into academic goals match sports goals. These kids want to succeed in everything they do and their parents can afford extra training and high club/travel costs.

While driving my kids all over for practices tonight I was able to catch (parts of) two Metro League matchups and both challenge the theory that club players are all at the private schools

Bishop Blanchet v. Lincoln - Tight game. Ultimately the Blanchet center backs were physically dominant and won the battle for them, but good play on both sides

Ballard v Seattle Prep - caught only part of the game but Ballard looked like better team with better players and won 2-0

if Ballard and Lincoln are in the second tier of the Metro League - post above is correct about it being stacked

and alternatively to confirm the theory
                        lakeside v garfield 3-0
                        holy names v ingraham 3-0
                        roosevelt v bothell 3-0

(roosevelt is public but might as well be private based on where it is located )

Metro is stacked this year. Might be some surprises at the end of the year.
