    NCAA Roster Limits/Scholarship Increases

Well now the fun begins for next year in 25-26. Rosters are about to get pared down to a limit of 28 players.

Next shoe to drop will be just how many scholarships will go up for a given sport now that the 14.7 and 9.9 caps have been eliminated. Let's all hope some of that good old pigskin revenue turns into a lot more soccer and other athletic scholarships.

If the P5 schools add more scholarships it's going to seriously ramp up competition for roster spots across all sports especially soccer since the rosters have a 28 player limit.

All schools who didnt opt in or weren't sued won't change. Status quo there.

Man I hadn't heard about this. I need to do my research. A lot of colleges have between 30-35 kids and some have more than that. So even if they don't fund full 28 scholarships some kids are going to be cut and those messages from coaches will come the end of this season if not sooner.

And even worse are those 25 and 26 recruits. How do you even sign a 25 or 26 if you are at 35 players? Hard to cull anris

I'd hate to be a coach in November. NLIs and cuts will be brutal.

Actually, it won't be that bad. This won't affect D3 who have the biggest roster. D1 shouldn't have more than 28 players anyways. Anything more than 23 is just wasted space.

Also keep in mind that although the scholarship limit is now 28 this does not mean all schools will offer 28 scholarships. It is at the discretion of each D1 school

Also remember that men’s and women’s soccer is moving in a new direction. The old pathway of US college soccer being a way to go pro is over. Europe is using their academies for girls now and bypassing US colleges. American D1 women’s soccer will lose its luster. Most US pro clubs are adopting the euro model and drafting young teens to their teams before college age. This trend will grow quickly. I can see a quick drop in D1 women’s college soccer quality over the next 2-3 years.

Other than football and maybe basketball, college athletics are in real trouble.
