We all know that there are a mixed bag of trainers in the greater Portland area. I'd love to see trainer recommendations both in Portland and in the suburbs. Please add to the list with areas/locations they typically train and rates if you've got em. I'm looking for close-in Portland (ideally NE PDX) but I'm sure other would appreciate further out recommendations.

None of them have been background checked, and none of them have field space of their own. They never watch the player in a game, and they spew nonsense to you and your child. Why would you have a private trainer? If your kid does not have the energy to work independently, leave it. One of the biggest scams in your soccer. As well as the Barca camps, ID camps, and phony pro academies like the Thorns.

There is certainly a place for private training. My kid goes a couple times per month when we can make it work and that gives her things to work on when she are on her own. My kid has been going to the same person for about 3 years—Hugo at Rain soccer training. He knows my kid and where my kid could use some help. He arranges sessions with small groups that have similar skill levels.
Of course my kid practices on her own. But to say that individual training is a scam is stupid. Highly recommend Hugo.
He has never tried to lure my kid to any particular club. He has been able to give us some names and contact info for parents with other clubs when we were looking a couple of years ago. He gave us names only when he had permission from the parents. He’s been a good ally for us beyond the sessions.

First ask Sir Hugo who his paid private trainer was growing up?
A ball, a wall, some cones paired with his motivation, ambition and imagination. Have him share how he made it to play in college and minor league semi pro soccer and It wasn't with any silly privates.
Seasoned pros abroad may of course have personal trainer's to help ensure they don't lose their livelihood which provides for their families.
Why would a recreational level kid in the states need a paid personal soccer trainer? Other than a one off meet up to get some ideas?
Ask the most iconic female player to ever come out of Oregon Tiffany Millbrett how many privates she did as a youth? Zippo she played instead against boys in public.

Agree the most committed players will find a way on their own but you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think a positive relationship with a good private trainer could help certain players. There is no same path to college or pro…for many it does not include any private training, and for many it does.
