    Indoor Soccer

this might be too early for discussion but i am wondering what most teams do for the indoor soccer session. my team has been playing at the Hubbard Indoor facility for years now but i am kind of tired of playing the same 4-6 teams every session.

any ideas where we could find good competition? where do the PDX teams play?

probably the closest to you (if your from the central northern valley), would be Tualatin indoor or Sherwood indoor.

            depends

It depends upon how you define "pretty good"

Neither place will likely have elite premier level teams...both Tualatin and Sherwood will have a variety of levels. Hubbard is almost entirely Latino based teams, Tualatin almost all non-Latino. Sherwood has a mix of Latino and not.

I have taken teams to all 3 places over the years and each are different from each other....Tualatin is quite a bit bigger which allows for longer passes and a speed game but my kids hated playing there on the old carpet (it's been replaced but haven't played there to know if it's any better.) Sherwood has the fieldturf so it plays like most outdoor turf fields but is quite a bit smaller than Tualatin...good for footwork and tighter working. Hubbard seems to be somewhere in the middle field size with similar turf to Sherwood.

If cost is a factor, Sherwood is by far less expensive - $400 team fee including referee fees (they pay the ref, not the teams) + ~$7 player card. Hubbard is in the middle. Tualatin is the most expensive with $600+ team fee, ~$15 player card, $8 per game paid to ref directly.

Sherwood tries to have all youth games on the weekends so an 8 game season may stretch to be 9 or 10 weeks with a bye or two. Tualatin seems to run 8 weeks per session and fits the games in on weeknights, days off from school as well as weekend play depending up the age group.

            Hope that helps.

              Indoor/Futsal

Depends on the Gender. Indoor boys and girls leagues are getting pretty rare with the emergence of Futsal. We have played at Tualatin with our daughter's teams the last few years and the competition is outstanding during the 1st Winter session, FC PDX, LOSC, SSC, WUSC, WSM and THUSC. Futsal Games are played on Sundays at Tualatin. The new field turf is quite an upgrade from the astro turf. I believe Indoor youth leagues take place on Saturday at Tualatin.

Didn't realize the growth of Futsal

If competition is you're concern for Indoor/Futsal

Here are my rankings based on the last few years.

Girls Competition & age specific leagues/divisions
#1. Tualatin #2 Portland Futsal #3 Salmon Creek

                    Boys Competition & age specific/divisions
                    #1 Portland Futsal #2 Tualatin #3 Hubbard.

All the other locations Oregon Soccer Center (clackamas), Beaverton (3-sites Mjcc, indoor Goals & Soccer Plex), & Sherwood are typcially a mix of grades/ ages that range from beginner to lower classic teams. Which is not very appealing when looking for similar levels/divsions

Portland Futsal and Tualatin have well over 200+ indoor/futsal teams each winter from u8 to u14 , while the other locations vary from 30 to 5o teams total over the two sessions and many times they can't tell you if they have a league going until just a few days prior to session beginning, it's not there fault they just don't get the team sign ups.

In the end if you're going to travel to play Indoor/Futsal it's always best to play where there is appropriate competition. Or play as close to home so it's not an expensive (gas) & time venture just to play indoors.

I would challenge your claim of over 200 teams playing indoor at Tualatin the past couple years...that's part of the reason we stopped playing there as there were only 4-5 teams in each age group/gender and they were the same teams over and over again. We played Sherwood last year and had 8-9 teams in our boys bracket with only one team that wasn't competitive.

                        Straight from there website

Portland Futsal and Tualatin have well over 200 kids teams playing during the winter sessions. Tualatin appears to have many more Girls teams and Portland futsal have many more Boys teams vs. the opposite gender. If Sherwood had one robust league of 8 boys teams great, the total count I mentioned was the total number of teams signed up boys and girls at both facilities. When I have pursued the Sherwood field house website it showed about 30 or 4o total teams during a winter session. No challenge needed.

                          Link to help

Here are the archived pages of Winter I teams at Tualatin Indoor in 2011/12 session 1.

Couldn't find Winter II session team count on there links. Anyway 126 teams filled up Tualatin Indoor during winter I session last year and you double that number for 2 sessions it's well over 200 teams.

Just to add to the discussion

As a manager I know first hand that once an Indoor center fills up with teams they that can't add anymore teams, the two prominent indoor/futsal centers in the area fill up in the later part of October each year for kids teams. Which I've found out the hard way. So their distribution of teams by divisions/genders is subject to the 'first come, first serve' axiom. With so many available places to play indoor/futsal those teams that don't get in first at 'x' arena, still want to play and seek out other venues, after being put on waiting list.

How many of those teams are duplicated between sessions? Likely many so they don't count twice.
Since it was specifically about indoor soccer, not futsal, that number drops to 50 across all youth age groups Toddlers through HS.
How many are in the targeted age range that the original poster was specifically asking about (u13/14)? even fewer

Not saying they don't have decent numbers, just don't spout that over 200 teams will meet the criteria asked for.
