MLS Next and ECNL matter for colleges. Once you drop below that then the truth is - your kid is almost certainly not going to college on a soccer scholarship. Go to a team that:
1) Has good kids/families in it. Ones you want to be around
2) Is reasonably priced (Sunshine league travels too, so it isn't like they are cheap)
3) Fits into your time schedule. Do you want to have Timmy travel around the state playing soccer with friends or do you want more travel/vacation time with him as a family?
The bottomline is that if you aren't on one of the 3 MLS Next teams, or FP's ECNL team you won't be getting a call from almost any college. And if you do it is going to be D2 or lower. If that is what your son wants, then great but you aren't getting calls from any higher level college.
Sunshine teams and ECNLR teams all have showcase type events that draw a lot of colleges. Plus there are local college ID camps you could attend (TBU and FP have them) without playing for those teams.

This maybe the most honest post ever written on TS.
Does this apply to girls as well?

ECNL > GA > all the rest, including ECLR.
Of course there's some overlap between leagues at the local level. Focus on the best coaching and fit for your player. The rest of it is just noise.

So is it worth it? No. You will spend so much more money on travel and club fees than college savings.
But, if you like the kids. Like the parents. Like the coach and club. Then yeah the experience can be worth it. You just can’t frame it in a monetary way or it isn’t worth it at all.

TBU pulled out of CDL once Premier got in (so their ECNL teams couldn’t face them). Then they did everything to try to prevent Florida Premier from having a seat at the ECNL table - but now those former ECNL-R teams at Premier are now ECNL - 3 or 6 ECNL age groups are already ahead of TBU in their first ECNL season. Parents and players recognize from results alone that there is more than TBU in Tampa Bay to look at to play Girls ECNL. In fact it’s so obvious even TBU parents have stopped listening to TBU dad.
But inferiority complex? Fl Premier’s results and standings speak for themselves and TBUs demise.

I have no dog in the fight. My advice for parents that are interested in ecnl, go to tbu. Florida Premier has so many players trying ou. Making fp ecnl team will be difficult. On the othet hand, tbu is in need of quality players. A florida Premier ecnl r starter will make the tbu ecnl team easily. Why play ecnl r when ecnl is available.
