How to get the Coach to play your kid

Scenario: your kid sucks, not respected by the other players on the team. Big game comes, he starts and plays the whole game, even though he’s f u c k i n g up big time. The coach doesn’t blink an eye and doesn’t take him out.

Question: how does this happen? Is the coach doing a favor to the kid’s parents? why? Is it because they are compatriots? Did they pay him off? Brainwashed?

Some times it is so they can make the kid a scape goat.... IE put the kid in a situation where he is in way over his head. Then tell parent he sucks later and doesn't get to play. Sometimes it is politics for sure. I see it all the time unfortunately. The thing that really grinds on me is that at every level (except maybe if you are at an MLS academy) they will say they want to develop the players and also win games. And it feels like they do neither. Sitting down good players to play kids far inferior to try to keep everyone happy is the go to move for most clubs. The result is that the good players never fully develop because the coaches are sending them mixed signals and the teams never achieve their full potential for the same reason.

I'd also say it depends on the age. At lower ages expect all the players to play some. But it will also happen when the kids get to high school level. It never really stops. Even more frustrating is how every team has a few kids that receive special treatment. Meaning they can play awful for long stretches and nobody says a word to them. Nobody even criticizes them. No loss of PT, nothing. Usually you will see they are coaches kids or have parents that have the coaches scared not to play them. It is crazy.

U-littles should have equal pt. Starting in middle school its more about earning pt but everyone should still gets some meaningful pt. If you're not going to play certain players you're a thief taking parent's money.

This is the complete problem that's holding the US back. There are kid's that have no right being in a strong team never mind playing most games. It sends mixed signals to the strong kid's who then turn round & loose interest. Hence the country ends up with below average soccer players. Most coaches do more damage than good & it's a pathetic situation.

Life is not fair. Joe Biden is holding the us back. Sucky kids can get more playing time if the mom is hot and banging the coach. Deal with it snowflake

There are many different issues with US Soccer, a large number of which stem from pay-to-play vs. a transfer fee incentive. But let's be honest about the biggest fundamental problem. I most countries the best athlete in town is playing soccer. In this country, Soccer has grown, but is still 3rd or 4th in line for the top kids. And some of the super athletes that try soccer later have no technical skills because they didn't start kicking that ball at 4, but rather started at 12. Yiannis played soccer before basketball. That would not have happened in the US.

The coach, and everyone else, sees the kid losing the ball over and over, being out of position, and not running back to defend…not to mention other huge mistakes.

Maybe you should be coaching seeing as you're an expert and all. Or, as another said, are you just upset your kid isn't playing as much? Or, maybe you think ulittle results matter?
