    USWNT is awesome again…

Crushed Paraguay tonight. We rule again.

or maybe…we are playing ridiculously low level competition that gives fans an unrealistic vision of who we are. I mean Carly had 5 goals. Really?

Paraguay was a slight step up from stationary plastic cones.

USWNT deserves at least equal pay if not higher pay than the MNT. Really no comparing their respective success on the World's stage. The MNT is trying to catch up to the rest of the world - the rest of the world is trying to catch up to the WNT.

Oh, they caught up and got past... Did you not see that trainwreck that was the Olympics?

OK, so they got bronze at the Olympics. Does that mean they are now done? So when they were knocked out in the quarter-final in the last Olympics, they were done then also? Or wait... that's right, they won the World Cup... again... in dominating fashion... again.
The USWNT have the longest sustained level of success in World Cup and Olympic history, men or women. Spain, Brazil, Germany had some successive tournament wins, but the US has placed no lower than 3rd since the Women's World Cup began in 1991. No team has that level of success over a 30 year period. They're still 2-time defending champions with the previous 2 Golden Ball winners. Yes, the other nations will eventually catch-up, but come on. People who know football-especially their opponents-know that the USWNT are still the standard.
And for Carli scoring 5 against low-level competition, well she had a natural hat trick... in the FIRST HALF... of a World Cup Final. So 5 goals against lower level competition (every country is lower level compared to the USWNT) isn't so bad, especially since her teammates are giving her a stage for her last games.

Pay is / should be based on revenue generated. Eat what you kill, just like the rest of us.

The problem is not with success or lack of success of men vs. women. The problem is the HUGE disparity in popularity in the men's game vs. women's game. This HUGE disparity leads to HUGE differences in TV / Gate / Merchandise / prize money revenue around the Globe.

When the Womens World Cup generates the same revenue as the Mens World Cup....then compensation will be equal.

              End of story.

The USWNT has had unprecedented success because they have had the benefit of UNPRECEDENTED INVESTMENT on the women's side. Say what you want about this Country's shortcomings...it can't be denied that in the last few decades the US has out INVESTED financially and with infrastructure in the womens game probably at least 10 fold than their nearest competitor.

The US women have been playing with a loaded deck. Significantly loaded in their favor. This is undeniable. The rest of the world has had to do more with less. However, the rest of the world for the most part is grateful to the US because we have pushed opened the doors for their countries to invest in the women's game as well.

As more financial parity develops, the natural advantage the US has benefitted from will evaporate.

^ this! No one doubts the WSWNT or the WNBA players don't work their tails offs, but they don't EARN what the men earn. It's all a business folks, all about the $$$$.

Plus after the Olympics performance they shouldn't be pushing so hard for performance based metrics either. The world is closing in, fast, and they might not bring home much metal for awhile.

Invested in infrastructure? Where, in the flailing NWSL?

The women started out ahead because of women's D1 soccer, a place to play that the rest of the world didn't have. Now professional clubs abroad are investing heavily in the game and are catching up fast, even beating us. We have....the NWSL. Some of our top players are now going abroad instead of slogging away here.

Look at the WNBA - talk about heavy investment and in a sport vastly more popular than soccer. The WNBA loses money every year and viewership/game attendance is a fraction of the mens' side, let alone the $ generated. Fans just aren't as interested in women's sports, any of them.

If the WNT has been popular it's because up until recently they won. America loves winners. They don't love soccer. They don't love soccer losers (ask the men's NT).

Unfortunately this is accurate and I have a daughter in soccer. Only want the best for her but have to be realistic about supply and demand. That’s why I get so pissed at the purple eggplant because she turns off a segment of the population to the USWNT. If she really cared about equal rights and wasn’t so self centered more folks would watch and partake in their games therefore leading to higher viewership, gate receipts, etc., and more $$ for the ladies but it all about her. Bashing the US moves the needle in the opposite direction. Folks who don’t understand this are not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Spot on 100%. Rapinoe is the worst thing to ever happen to USWNT and has set back popularity big time,

Infrastructure US invested in for their athletes at least 10 fold more than other countries:

                          1) nutrition
                          2) sport specific strength and conditioning coaches
                          3) medical support staff
                          4) facilities
                          5) coaches and assistant coaches salary
                          6) video analytics
                          7) individual digital personal work / exertion metrics and personalized recovery plans
                          8) accommodations
                          9) travel budget
                          10) equipment
                          11) player compensation packages

In the decades past....any international player would have killed to have the advantages the US women have. Facts.

Yes...NCAA soccer used to be a huge advantage, but that time has past. And, yes....USSF helping support NWSL is still an advantage for fringe / young USWNT players to have a platform, however...now that the mega clubs with seemingly unlimited resources have entered the game...NWSL will likely be left in the dust much like MLS.

Follow the money. They don't bring in the same bank deposits as men's soccer. And of late they haven't been performing either.
