There is only so much a coach can do. The previous coach was a good coach. Made NCAA's recently.

If the players are unable to make practices due to academics/labs; are wiped out because of their academic schedules; have too much academic workload; are looking for a coach to make them do the grunge work instead of it coming from within them as a team and individually, then no coach will work.

This is how D-III works. Most D-III programs are in the same position. Some schools still don't have lighted fields which makes it even tougher! You work around it. None of these players are at a level to move beyond D-III and best case will be playing in the CASA league after college if they can fit it in to their work schedule, but most women's players never touch a ball again after their final college game. D-III soccer is an activity, something for students to blow of steam. Some D-III coaches are very good at balance, and can get it done with players coming in and out of training and having certain days where practice might be light. The new coach will do fine, not much difference between any of the past coaches and what will come in the future.

He calls himself the "Soccer Poet". How could anyone possibly take this pompous clown seriously?

Considering this is probably the most coherent thing you have ever written and you are most assuredly not a published author I must ask what writing expertise do you have?

New coach should be fine since the complainers (all 2 of them) are gone and by default so are the parental snowflakes.

At the end of the day maybe this shouldn't cause you to be let go, but at a small private college that depends on tuition its important that you retain the players. They have struggled to retain players and have had few last beyond their second year. The women are unhappy, and when you play D-III the experience is important. The school is spending money to recruit players to pay tuition and with the hope that those players will graduate and give back to the school someday. If players are leaving the program after a year or two, there is a problem, there isnt a return on the recruiting investment and players wont give back to a place they were unhappy. If players are not staying on the team then there is a problem! Certainly it is challenging to have a roster comprised of nursing students, but other coaches have found a way.
PLAYERS LEAVE. It happens at every program in the country. They don't get PT and quit. They don't like the coach. They can't handle the workload. They're burned out on soccer. They know it's time to move on to more adult pathways.

And sorry you are expected to manage your coursework on your own time in D3. It's why coaches and the school really don't bend in admitting less qualified student athletes - there is no academic support like in D1. Science and especially nursing have demanding scheduling and that is well known.

Sometimes that is all it takes - just a few can make life miserable for all.

Finally got some answers! It had to do with the daughter of a major donor and playing time. (No surprise there!)

I have to say, it was great that this subject created so much discussion

You don't say. Just like the MSM the defenders of the firing are nowhere to be found when the circumstance is confirmed. Was stated all along it was a couple entitled generation Z kids and their parents driving the bus. The AD should resign in shame. How did it feel to stab your "friend" in the back? Hopefully you lost some sleep at a minimum but I doubt it.

Big donors can be a different situation than the garden variety helicopter parent. This isn't a school with big Ivy type endowments either. Yes pathetic of course but never underestimate the capacity of humans to disappoint other humans

Not as good as it was with Dan at the helm. Average now just like most places. The safe space club participants that got him fired have moved on now but the culture of fear for coaches remains.

Why play to win when your job only depends on perceived player happiness?

At least this story has a happy ending as a good person/coach was just appointed the head women's coach at TCNJ.

"What is right is not always easy and what is easy is hardly ever right, but the right choice today will improve your life tomorrow."

In closing, screw the Widener mega donor and his whiny kid there are titles to win - :)

Hey Danny, best of luck. There are lots of former Widener parents wishing you all the best.
