Teams/clubs that allow parent assistant coaches..

(this is not about Bucks 06). At what age or level do you think clubs should stop allowing parents on the sideline? Obviously there are clubs who hire a trainer to run practice sessions, then a parent manages the games, but those are usually ICSL or Central League, maybe low EDP at the u12 or under level.. But certainly not USYS, ECNL or GA. When you're paying $2500 or more a year you don't want a parent to have say in playing time/positions/development. Regardless of that parent's resume. What do those clubs think will happen when the paid coach can't make a game and the parent assistant coach has to take over? Playing time and positions are adjusted to suit their own kid. Oy

No issue with parents being involved as a team manager. If any coaching involved they need to be coaching any team except their own kids

Not about bucks 06 - but all you have to do is read that loooong thread to see what a bad idea having a parent coach is. No good comes from it. Perception is reality and people will perceive rightly or wrongly that the coaches kid is being favored. Never a good idea - when parents writes checks for coaches they expect professional coaches not parents.

If and only if the parent coach is a proven A licensed coach with high level coaching experience. Otherwise, parents should not be coaching or assistant coaching.

A license? What are you smoking? Most professional youth coaches don't have that. If a club wants to use parent coaches 1) they need to have the same qualifications as their other coaches 2) parent coaches can't coach their own kids. Yes a rare parent coach is a good coach and treats everyone fairly, but it is rare

Do clubs do this to save money or something? If a coach has conflicts because he has 3 teams playing in a weekend, it's pretty convenient to have a parent take over the game while he's with his other team. It's a disgrace.

Definitely depends on the situation. Few parents have the qualifications to coach but those that do I have seen do a great job. When their kids are involved they put in more time and effort.
I have seen both Marsch and Pretke work as assistants or fill in when HC was not available. I know a former pro GK who does the GK training on his sons team. There are many good examples but there are horror stories too. Not many parents have a decent level coaching certifications but those with high ones tend to be ok even with their own kids teams.

Training is one thing but managing a game -moving players, cutting minutes from others to accommodate your own kid is a problem.

If you think the coaches at the level I mentioned care about a few minutes in the occasional game they cover, you are mistaken.
Don't confuse the local HS player who wants to coach their kids with someone who has spent years or decades coaching.
Which is why I said the individual situation matters.

If you think an A license prevents daddy eyes, your delusional

And the amount of A, B, or Pro licensed coaches who coach their own kids over the age of 12 in PA are?
probably could count them on 1 hand

Happens every single year and as previous poster pointed out it is NEVER a good idea for a parent to coach their kid on a pay-to-play club that is supposed to be considered competitive. Just give him a different team and avoid the headache. Our club had a highly qualified mom coach both of her daughters through club. They were good players. One of them should NOT have been a CM or a starter and neither should have taken every kick for the exorbitant times they spent on the field at everyone else's expense.

Just as bad is the team manager who tilt the scale for their child. FC Bucks is loaded with them.

The original quote was about an assistant. So someone helping with trainings and covering the rare occurrence that a HC can't make it.
This person probably then has less influence than the board member whose kid plays who hires the HC. Or the close friend of the board member and so on. Especially if they are a higher experience coach than what we all normally see peddling influence.
