Top 20 based on what? Got soccer? League rankings?

If the kid isn't playing at least half the game/actually 60%-70% of the game find another team.

Usually you will have 5 that stay/play the whole game which leaves plenty of time to allocate-

How many field players? 16 out of 16 or 16 out of 20, 1, 2 or 3 goalies. Bottom half of bench depending on league and team size could be anywhere from 40-60%. If your kid isn't getting the time and is really that low on the bench and not getting time then you may want to look somewhere else unless the training is just that good.

Now is the time for new life lessons - at about this age PT starts being earned. It won't ever ben equal again. That said, non starters still deserve and need meaningful PT, 15- 20m a half. If your kid isn't getting it 1) have him/her ask the coach what they need to do get more (they need to self advocate, not you). 2) If the coach doesn't give any good direction or the player does what they want and still isn't playing much? Look elsewhere for a better fit. Playing very little on a "top" team isn't worth it.

It's mathematically impossible to get all players 60%-70% playing time

What club are you at? That would help determine the level of BS involved.

Not impossible just a huge pita to figure out as you would need a lot of planning which I don't see any youth coach doing.

Didn't realize it was PDA with 20+ on the roster and of course if you have 2 goalies that isn't working.

And they were only asking about their kid without the total roster size so how do you know?

                    You missing fingers or toes?

Say roster is 18 players with 2 goalies which in theory would split the halves so they are at 50% each.

That leaves 16 field players to divvy up 900 minutes which using all my fingers and toes is roughly 56 minutes per player which is right in the 60% range.

And that is assuming everyone is 100% healthy and in attendance.
