Every age from 8 years old and onward a child in a top club with good training that is not about wins and losses will be learning more and growing more as a player than a peer at 99.9% of town teams. You may decide the cost or the travel isn't worth it. That is entirely fair. But the skills and knowledge of the game are not comparable in the player coming up through a select club vs. nearly all town programs. This is based on watching hundreds of kids come and go during the last 15 years or so. The gap only widens.
"Growing as a player"? What is that good for when the most any one of these kids could realistically hope for is to pay at some third or fourth tier college before going on to sell insurance or used cars?

Curious - since FCW and NYSC hold tryouts every year, do the clubs "kick out" some of the current players in the club to make room for new players? Or do the tryouts just get more competitive with every year since not that many spaces for new players to join (would assume it's easier to get in for the younger age groups)?

Kids that get little PT either leave on their own or are encouraged to do so, but it's usually well under a handful. Some rosters get absurdly large and PT becomes an issue.

many of the weaker players self select out as they don't want to play on a B team forever; coaches also communicate to certain parents that the program "is not a good fit". some of the very elite players move up to NYCFC or Red Bull academy teams. At the same time NYSC and FCW are recruiting players from other programs to take spots of the weaker players. its all quite insane and hyper-competitive for youth sports.

The rosters at U14 and up are usually set. Of course there is some movement where players leave or change to B teams etc. On the flip side some of the more elite teams are carrying 23 or more players.

In the end find a program that works best for you and your kids. Look for physical and technical development. Look for a good fit. Kids that have been with a club for ever become cliqueish further complicating the situation.

That’s actually not accurate. Both fcw and NYSC have stronger “A” teams than world class in at least one age group. Both clubs have posted wins over WC “A” - and this was on age league/tournament play.

                    What age? U9?

World Class obliterates NYSC, and FCW barely has a program.

Are you sure WC bothered sending an A team to play either club? Id bet no.

For FCW it has always been White = B
