MLS Next gets more and more mediocre the more teams it adds.

That hit the nail on its head. The vast majority of MLS Next clubs are already mediocre at best. Some aren't even as good as run of the mill neighborhood teams On top of that, they have rosters of 18-21 players such that many players either don't play at all on any given day or only play 30 minutes. If kids think that playing 30 minutes a game is any way to build stamina necessary to play at a higher level, they will be solely mistaken.

Further evidence that MLS Next had already expanded far too much.

There's the pro clubs, a few top pay to play clubs, and the "all the rest". "All the rest" isn't much better than some non MLSN clubs - only with more travel and you can't play HS. All to wind up at a D3 program you can get to without MLSN. Adding more mediocre clubs just makes "all the rest " bigger but more mediocre

I guess you haven’t been at any game yet…
nothing mediocre about Met Oval or NYCFC or Red Bull.
game speed was as fast as ECNL or faster and great competition… so stop writing BS if you haven’t been at a game yet.

MLS Pro does not equal most of the pay to play clubs. There's the A level, then a good 2/3 of the rest are B level. And B level is fine for what it is, but don't put FCW or Beachside in the same category as NYCFC or Red Bulls.

You must have a very low definition of good soccer. The top 3-4 teams in each division are good -- that applies to both MLS Next and ECNL. The remaining teams are not. Suggesting that Met Oval is strong - at least for any of the teams I know - is laughable.

For the year classes I am familiar with, FCW is a joke.

So are several other pay to play clubs. Like the poster said, there's the pro clubs, and handful of pay to plays that can compete, then most of the rest is awash in mediocrity

This is a great teachable moment so please pay attention…No suggesting that met oval is strong, when compared to one of the pro team. But for a pay to play club it’s a pretty good one with a great history in player development that’s what the mls next is trying to promote with this league. But again. This is why USA is decades behind to the rest of the world when it come to soccer. But yes you may be right about my definition of soccer been very low… smh..
