It does demonstrate how bad US Soccer is at identifying the most talented players at the early ages.

To the thread OP: why do you think NJ should have more than one, especially when much larger states that dominate in soccer also dominate the list?

No it demonstrates that no matter how good a player is at 17 they are not a finished product. Players improve. Who would have thought the Aronson kid would be playing in the Premier league when he was 15? No one! This is why none of this matters at these younger ages. It is all about development at the early ages. Later teenage years it is about improving the skills you were taught and putting them into the games. Then in college and byond it is mastering the skills you were taught, finding new skills and the performing when the lights are shining. No kid is a finished product and the odds of any of these great players below 12 years of age being great at 17 are very slim. Talent is only part of the equation. Desire has more to do with making it than talent. Yes you need talent, but the kid that wants it bad enough will sacrifice the social events, work on their own away from the team, go all out during every practice and seek out great coaches & players to pick their brains. The only time a player is a finished product is when they stop playing. This is something that every parent needs to understand. You can't make your kid great, you can only assist them is getting there. The kid is the one that has to want it!

From U15+ the extra effort kids put into their own development start to matter more and more. So does mental toughness. Obviously top skills, speed etc matter, but the first two help the players rise to the top.

Your are correct. A lot of B.S. being posted on this site. Seems most of it is coming from North Jersey as usual. I wish South Jersey could separate from North Jersey. The parent sup there give the NJ a bad name!
