Juventus is a nice little club. Their younger teams seem somewhat talented. The club is a viable option for parents looking to get their children into somtheing beyond town soccer.
Juventus made a marketing decision to fully fund 2 teams to gain access to the MLS Next U13/U14 league. That is a smart move for an organization seeking validation to further grow their business. It's probably money well spent.
Parents of players on a non-MLS Next U13 or U14 team all pay an amount similar to parents at other clubs for soccer each year.
While there may be some talented players at Juventus they certainly can't field a competitive MLS Next team from their current player pool. THAT'S partially why those teams are free. They need to bring players in from other clubs if they hope to compete.
Besides the 2 non-MLS Next teams Juventus plays in EDP leagues. At U15 players that choose to stay at Juventus will play in an EDP league whether they played in MLS Next or not.
Here is how Juventus did in the EDP New England Conference against average to below average competition:
U13 Premier Division North(2008) = 1st place
U13 Premier Division South(2008) = 4th place
U14 Premier Divison North(2007) = 5th & 6th places
U15 Premier Division North(2006) = 1st, 6th & 7th places
U16 Premier Division North(2005) = 4th, 7th & 8th places
U17 Premier Division North(2004) = 3rd, 4th, 6th & 7th places
U19 Premier Divison North(2002) = 5th, 6th, 8th & 9th places
The U13 Juventus Adademy Boston 2008 North Bianco team indeed went undefeated in the EDP. This team advanced to the USYS Eastern Regional Championships in New Jersey that took place June 25th - July 1st. They finished last in Bracket E with no wins an one tie. That was against EDP teams. This team is headed to MLS Next.
Pay close attention to the U15, U16, U17 & U19 teams above. After a player transitions out of MLS Next at U15 they will end up in a U15, U16, U17 & U19 league where they'll play teams from their own club multiple times per season. That isn't exactly a blueprint for elite development.
Juventus players that choose to remain in MLS Next after U14 will need to transition to another club. Those that don't will be stuck playing Juventus teams, Western United, Best FC, New England Surf and Real Boston.
Juventus is a decent option for younger players looking to increase their level of skill on the field. Once players get to high school Juventus players will need to decide if they want to get more serious about their soccer path.
If they want to play professionally they will need to make a New England Revolution MLS Next team.
If they want to play in college they will need to make a Boston Bolts MLS Next team, or potentially a local ECNL team.
