Local town soccer (NGS) vs club leagues?

new to town - can someone explain views on Newton Girls Soccer vs leagues like Scorpion, Surf or Juventus? Seems like many options to choose from but would like to know differences between the leagues vs town, players, competitiveness, commitment, cost, etc.

Town soccer stinks and is for poor people. Club soccer is better and is for rich people.

Is this a trolling post? Town is mostly to play with your friends and to have fun. Club is if you child wants more serious competition. There are regional teams and then higher level teams depending on the club (DPL, Impact, GA, ECNL). Mostly you want to find a coach you like and stick with that are the younger ages. Juventus is no more they are now IFA. SSS & NEFC will be the best options in terms of development.

They’re not mutually exclusive. Lots of girls play for town on Saturdays and club on Sundays, especially at the younger ages. Club training and competition certainly has a much higher “ceiling”.

Town soccer is mostly run by volunteers… so you know the quality lacks. Club soccer is mostly run by snakes and vampires… so you know, pick your poison.

don't they make you sign and committ to not being in other teams / clubs while you're playing for that specific town or club? is there no proper enforcement of that other than your signature and they take no action? do kids at age 7, 8, 9, 10 really practice and play club leagues, games for 5 - 6 days a week?

Town is not club. You can’t play for 2 towns nor 2 clubs, but many play town and club. Towns with higher home prices tend to have better town soccer programs.

NGS is a mature and respected town program. Most Newton parents have their kids play both town and club. Newton’s location makes many clubs accessible

No. That’s odd statement above. Nobody signs anything about not being on other teams. Your kid can play club and town year round if it’s offered. Yes kids do play 5-6 days a week. If your kid enjoys it why not. Better than playing video games 5-6 days a week.

This pretty much summarizes it well.
I'll add that if it wasn't for HS sports, town programs probably would not exist. The fact that HS sports mandates that kids do not play club if they want to play HS sports... pretty much is what keeps town programs alive.

What are you talking about. First, many town teams are gone bu the time HS starts. Too many decent players have left for clubs, others drop out for other sports and interests and there's basically no teams left. Secondly, the no club rule is only during the HS season is there protect players from burnout, exhaustion and abusive coaches putting too much pressure on kids.

Town teams feed into HS, not clubs. If MIAA removed the bona fide rule, lots of HS programs would crumble as players would chose club over HS... and as a result town programs would become less important.

You missed the poster's point - few high school players play town in high school because there's few town teams to play on. The number of club players on any HS team varies town to town - some have a lot, some have very few. High school coaches will take anyone who helps them win, which will be a mix of club players, multisport athletes and good players who came up through the town system. The rule only impacts the club players during the season, and really there is no club activity during the fall precisely because it's too much to do both. High school players that weren't playing club already are unlikely to move to club past U15.

Town programs are a great way for younger players to learn the game, see if they like the sport and want to continue - without the high cost of club soccer and travel. Is it great quality? Of course not, but it serves an important purpose for the ulittles. Once in middle school it really starts to fall apart. Our town goes from 4-6 teams per age group to about 1.5 in middle school
