Should kids be punished for mistakes , yes. Throwing kids to the lions for a whoopie pie in the face is not a fair and reasonable punishment. There had to be another way.
They were punished by being suspended. It couda/shouda ended there.

Coach T and TW (and the remaining pack of 5) threw them to the lions when they went to court. You nitwits still don't get it.

    An injury? A death ?

This is not" back then ". "Back then ", it was fashionable to smoke anywhere. " Back then " , it wasn't any big deal to drink and drive. It used to be fashionable to spit in spittoons in Public places, and use Cocaine.

Organized Society, over time, has the ability to change the accepted behaviour, to cleanse itself of behaviour that was once the norm. This is exactly the case here.

Personal responsibility and recognition of the consequnces of improper behaviour are definitve things that society MUST impose on young people. Some people may consider the punishemnt harsh, or unfair. That is irrelevant , since all responsibility for the incident rests on those yuo committed theacts, or were in concert to them.

Fair is an elusive concept. This incident , in itself, will contribute to the already building trend of nonacceptance for this type of behavior. Will everyone learn from it? Most likely not. Many people arrested for DUI , are repeat offenders. Some people take longer than others to learn appropriate behavior. That is just human nature.

" stupidity is treated a sa social lesson" , becasue society has seen to it that certain forms of stupidity go beyond what is now the accepted norm of stupid. What was stupid in the past, may be more serious today. The fact of the matter is that those who were directly involved could not seperate the fact that what was once stupid behavior , is no longer what they perceived. That may be from their upbringing, their alloofness, their superiority complex, whatever.

Tough luck for them. Tough lesson for them. Welcome to the human race.

The mother of a junior on the Needham High School girls soccer team says that the suspensions of several players on the team for alleged hazing was too severe for what she called a "misguided attempt at team building.''

In an email to the Globe, Needham parent Sharon Lund said that the team was supporting both the players and the team's coach, who also reportedly has been placed on leave. She said her daughter is a junior on the team who was not implicated in the incident.

"As the parent of an underclassman, I can safely say that the ENTIRE Needham Girl's Soccer team and parents are UNANIMOUS in supporting each senior who has been placed on suspension and the coach who has been placed on administrative leave, and assert that the event in question in no way warrants the issuing of suspensions by Needham High School,'' Lund said in the email. "In a nutshell, there was no intention to harm, nor was any harm perceived by team members, during a misguided attempt at team building.''

    She continued:

"In my personal opinion, these girls have handled a serious mistake in a more mature fashion than either the NHS administration or the press has to date. This was an isolated inter-team issue that they resolved to everyone's satisfaction amongst themselves with active support from the coach, and in the process strengthened the bonds amongst them. As some of the parents have so aptly pointed out, aren't these the life skills that we want our daughters to have?''

Several members of the Needham High School girls’ soccer team were suspended before Monday night’s state tournament game for allegedly hazing younger players on the team.

WBZ-TV reported that the hazing victims had been blindfolded and led around on dog leashes, then hit in their faces with pies. The team’s coach, Carl Tarabelli, was put on administrative leave, the station said. He could not be reached for comment.

School officials have said little to explain the suspensions.

“The Needham High School Community is saddened about recent events involving the girls’ soccer team,’’ said a statement from the superintendent’s office Tuesday afternoon. “The high school administration, staff, students, and families urge the local Needham community to support our team as they face Brockton tonight.’’
What a misguided woman! Makes Needham look even worse!

The really sad thing that some of you may not realize is that there are some other agenda's at play here. Needham has this parent who if you have spent any time on this forum at all you know constantly bashes all things Needham. This goes back to Coach T not selecting their child for the varsity when they thought he should have. Since then they have waged an all out smear campaign against Coach T and the program. This person is a sick and nasty individual. The stuff they write and their tenacity are unbelieveable. I would not be surprised if half the posts in this thread originated from one of their computers. As you read some of these post just keep in mind what their agenda is. They want to isolate blame on Coach T so he will be fired. Now don't get me wrong, Coach T should be fired, but we are dragging the kids through the mud to get there. The thing is they don't care who gets hurt. I hope you do
